Does OS X have anything like Everything? GnomeDo can be customized to function essentially the same, but that's exclusive to Linux.

Also, how is Finder any more functional than Explorer or Nautilus?

Because I'm fairly certain it isn't the most common desktop or laptop operating system, which seems to be the discussion here. Most people, including myself, generally think desktop/notebook when OS is mentioned.

Sure, but it's the third most common PC operating system, It's the most common FLOSS PC OS, and out of the three most popular, it's by far the most secure. It's also in the damn poll.

Also, most modern laptops use Linux for their quickboots.

It isn't what most people see as their CPU GUI though. I think that's the main thing.

Windows XP Professional.

Dad never felt like installing Windows 7 on our home PC. He has it on his laptops, though.

This computer has Mac OS X 10.6.2 on it. ^^

Windows 7 Home Premium.

Soooo much better than Vista.

Pretty much, and it’s fairly customizable as far as what you want it to look for. I mean, it wont show you every system file people never look at (probably best that it doesn’t). But, every time I’ve looked for something I’ve found it with Spotlight. From a file name down to a single word in a web page, it’s pretty powerful. Fast, too.

The only thing I don't like with Spotlight is that if you're running a Mac Mini, it takes like 8 seconds before it works when you click it.

Complaining about the Mac Mini all the time is like complaining about an eMachine all the time. They both suck. Everyone knows. Thread is about OS’s.

To his credit, Everything is extremely fast, due to a property of NTFS partitions that it takes advantage of.

You look at them when you're developing software, and you need to know what libraries you have access to. :/

Spotlight wasn’t made for developers, it was made for consumers, and it works perfectly for that. Besides, finder has it’s own search for when you go digging.

And mac OS is inseparable from the hardware. As far as Apple is concerned, the mac is the OS.

^ i agree, I mean you can rave about MAC OS being cool and convenient all you want, but the fact of the matter is the computers themselves are comparitively pieces of crap when you look at other PC"s in the same price range .

Indeed. My $700 PC would rape just about any mac but the octo core Mac Pro. And even then the base model's graphics card is total ****.

Not true at all. Only thing that Macs are behind is in terms of hardware, really, is graphics cards. Everything else is much the same, in some cases even faster. (i.e.: DDR3 RAM, when most PC’s are still using DDR2) Same price range? No, not complete crap. Maybe a $2,000 PC will have an extra core and they managed to stick DDR3 RAM in there with a supped up graphics card you wont ever use to it’s full power, but a $2,000 Mac is far from crap.
