Xbox RRoD

My xbox just got 3 quarters of the ring red. I was simply unplugging it to the basement to do system link with another xbox, when it just doesn't work. It was fine from an hour before, and I hook it up back to the upstairs where it once was, and still nothing.

I turn it on, and the AC glows green, meaning there's a system problem. Now, my question is is it possible to get this fixed without sending it to Microsoft? I've had this system since Christmas of 2006, and I don't think they take any systems before 2007.

From what I understand 2 quarters means it's overheated and a full circle means something's not plugged in right. Unfortunately 1 and 3 quarters signals a hardware failure, so yeah you're ♥♥♥♥ed.

From what I heard, 3 red lights and your Xbox is done. Completely.

You can try the hot towel trick. Hell, once we put a rrod xbox in an oven to get it to turn on. It works most of the time.

This happens with mine sometimes.
Try unplugging it and plugging it back in first before you try any homebrew tricks on your xbox. I've fixed mine that way.

Microsoft should cover the rrod completely. The three years is just not enough since every console will die from hardware failure due to poor manufacturing at some point. I'm not looking forward to the day when mine dies. I'm well out of warranty as well.

I intend to get a PS3 just for insurance.

From all the horror stories I've heard, I just read this title and instantly thought "the thing's toast, send it to Microsoft".

Mine worked after RRoD by just not ♥♥♥♥ing with it for a few weeks. It was overheated pretty badly, but worked fine after a while. And yes I had the 3 rings.
