Re: Windows 7 launch thread
Windows 7 is awesome - it's Vista done right.
It works on most PCs that run XP now - I've had it at work for well over a month and absolutely love it. Can't say I'm rushing out to buy for my home PC, I've got Vista and it's running fine. I'll probably upgrade to 7 when I get a new PC. It's the first time I can actually say Microsoft has done a good job for a change.

Re: Windows 7 launch thread
Not always Microsoft's fault. For example, our ♥♥♥♥ty school has set up so only Apple products can access the wireless, I believe. This means my IBM laptop doesn't work with it, neither do Sony Ericsson or Nokia phones. Only thing that works is the Macbooks people who study how to take care of kids in kindergarten got for free (along with licenses for the latest version of Logic Studio - I have music production and get to use eMacs with 256 mb RAM, 1.25 ghz processor, etc running Reason 3...); as well as my friends iPhones. Nothing else.

Re: Windows 7 launch thread
I've been running Windows 7 since Friday 23rd October, and i have to admit that finally Microsoft have got something right. As other members have mentioned already, this is what i believe Windows Vista should have been. I've had no compatibility issues at all, no problems installing software, everything updated itself .
Heck, even Kaspersky is working effectively. I just need to check i've got the Windows 7 patches installed for this, then i will know it is. Edit: Yup, everything seems ok, which is nice.

Re: Windows 7 launch thread
I've been running 64-bit Windows 7 ever since the beta came out. I switched to the RC as fast as I could and bought and installed the RTM a month ago. It's been smooth sailing so far and I'm really impressed. Vista wasn't a bad piece of cake for me but 7 is the glossier, tastier, healthier coating of icing.
Also, I'm really glad that Microsoft has pushed manufacturers really hard to set 64-bit as the default, if not only, option for new computers. It's about time we made the switch. Hardware that can run it and has drivers has literally no reason not to. Quote:

Of course, most people's negative reaction to Vista comes entirely from word of mouth or negative first experiences with compatibility and User Account Control, and that when they actually use the thing, most enjoy it quite a bit. |

Re: Windows 7 launch thread
I mostly enjoy the user aspect of Vista,
but good lord do I run into a lot of freaking bugs. I mean a lot of issues constantly happen with Vista. "Windows Explorer has stopped working" come up once or twice a day. And now my laptop is failing to sleep when I close the lid. No reason, just doesn't want to go to sleep unless I hit the sleep button on the start menu. It's not a hardware issue, and not a hardware issue because the screen does turn off when I close the lid. It just doesn't sleep. I'm hoping a lot of the issues I've been having with Vista are fixed when I upgrade. Will do some time but I really don't have a few hours of free time.

Re: Windows 7 launch thread
Actually, I have a question.
Very rarely do I need to use my wife's computer. Because she is generally the sole user of her machine, she has it configured to login automatically. Does anyone know if it is possible to add an account for me but still have the system login automatically under her name on bootup? If I need to use it, I can just switch over to my account, but I want the system to always boot in her name (without having to type a password or click the little icon). |

These seem to be the steps for Vista. They should be similar for Windows 7 as well. |

Re: Windows 7 launch thread
I installed windows 7 and I haven't had a crash yet. But, the problem that still persists that when i hook up my zen x-fi and then try to transfer files to it they fail, I take the USB out and do it again, it works but, then iTunes freezes when i try to transfer a file to it. Hmm I hoped win 7 would fix it but i guess not.
