Apple releases some updates to iMac and Macbook

27" iMac with Core i5/i7 processors, that do not cost 135325$?! Seriously, I'm impressed, I might honestly consider one.

They also made the highest-end iMac the lowest end one with a 21.5" monitor (with almost the same resolution - but most likely the display is ♥♥♥♥ty TN... not completely sure)

So how 'bout that Magic Mouse, hm? I've already ordered mine. Looks like a wonderful step up from the Mighty Mouse, at least.

I'm pretty excited to try it out.

Maybe people will finally stop ♥♥♥♥♥ing about Mac's being under powered now. This was an awesome move on their part.

Edit: Just noticed that they bumped up Hard drive space a ♥♥♥♥ ton. This is a blessing.

However, they could've put in a better graphics card... I can't see how that resolution can be handled in any games beyond Plants & Zombies.

I want the Magic Mouse... but it doesn’t say there’s pinch zooming or Exsposé stuff... Which wouldn’t make sense to not include.

I’ll probably get it anyway.

magic mouse is garbage, it's overpriced and doesn't exactly have that great of tracking...
new iMacs both use IPS panels.

using harddrives with a greater areal density tends to cut thermal output overall and there's no space increase. A graphics card sucks power though
iMacs are more or less laptops without the portability. Don't plan on doing anything 3d on them.
the top end model DOES have a 4850 in it though... have fun spending $2000 on a desktop computer with a card usually found in $600-800 budget PCs....

Meh, I'll try it before making judgments - it does look a bit uncomfortable, though...

Funny, someone is trying to debate with me that his 2.66ghz C2D 20" iMac is better for design and 3D work than my quad core i5 with a 24" monitor...

I'm going on past experience, the mighty mouse is a piece of crap.

assuming that the software on the iMac isn't 100-150% more efficient...
that's assuming no hardware acceleration is being used. If there is hardware acceleration then the CPU doesn't matter nearly so much as the GPU and how well suited it is to work with a certain codeset... at least as far as rendering speed is concerned. Now if a certain application is far more limited by the speed of the end user, then the applications interface and the like DOES matter.

Let's take rendering on Cinema 4D using Vray as an example. Which computer will be done about twice as quick, and which computer will be coolest after 1 hour of rendering?

Re: Apple releases some updates to iMac and Macbook

I'm pretty excited about these updates. I generally use Windows, but it's hard not to get excited when Apple releases new products. They're cool - even if they're mostly novelty.

The mac will be the coolest after 1 hour of rendering. OF COURSE IT WILL BE, YOU PAID LIKE TWICE AS MUCH FOR IT. If you weren't getting a REALLY COOL PRODUCT with all that money you paid, you'd totally be getting ripped off.

you weren't referring to thermal levels though, right? Just making sure you were asking about the products undeniable awesomeness. Seriously if I were a multimillionaire, I'd be using that brand new 27inch iMac right now, it seems really nice. If I was rich, I'd also have dropped 5k on a macbook, and around 10k on a 2p dual nehalem system with dual 5870s and a nice SSD RAID array.

Until the magic mouse does Exposé I'm not touching it. I like squeezing my mighty mouse with love <3

I'd have a 27" iMac, an octocore Mac Pro with 32 GB RAM and 2x 30" Cinema Displays, and a dual i7 system with dual HD5870's and three 30" monitors (Eyefinity <3, I could run six if I wanted but that's too much for me), everything running SSD's.

I'd also have a Sony Vaio FW.
