Thinking about getting an Ipod Touch

Yes, so I was thinking about getting a 32 gb Ipod Touch. They seem like pretty neat little things.
I've had my Ipod video for 5 years now. It's getting pretty disfuntional. It doesn't hold a charge for more than 45 minutes, it locks up half the time, songs don't normaly play without having me fight with it for a bit, and the harddrive in it is very loud, and it vibrates alot. This probably isn't good. I've really liked having my Ipod, it's been one of my favourite little gadgets for the last little while, and now i'm going to need a new one. So, I'm thinking about a Touch. Is there anything that I should be aware of with them? Slow? High rate of being defective? Stuff like that.

I still say the thing's overrated. If I were you, I would get a PSP and a mini-usb cable. Put music on that, play games, and pay half the price.

Less storage though. And 32 gig memory cards for that are exspeeensiiiive. But it’s still a good option.

I had an iPod Touch. It was really nice. No defects or anything. I even dropped it once a tile floor once and it was still like new.

The App’s are what makes the device. Go for it.

I don't want something that big. It's either i'm going to get an Ipod Touch, Or just get an Ipod Classic.
I'm just wondering weather or not I should go for the Touch or get another one the same as what i've already had.

Haha, good to know. It's not entirely fragil.
And yeah, one of the main reasons I was planning on this over a classic is the apps.

If you're looking for more than a simple portable media player, there's no other players combined with mobile web browsers in the same class as the iPod Touch. I'd go with it.

Re: Thinking about getting an Ipod Touch

They're pretty cool. I got mine as a gift, it has really cool features and everything. The only problem is that I haven't touched it in a good month. That may just be me, but I just never see the need for it, I don't have money to spend on apps and I the default features are pretty simple.

Like all iPods the battery sucks. I can't be on the internet on it for more then 15 minutes without it going halfway down.

Overall it's pretty cool to have, that is if you keep up with it.

Get an iPod touch if you want the gimmicks and the browser (which is neat if you have a wifi nearby!). If you want decent sound, don't get one - it's a known fact that the normal headphone out on an iPod sucks, especially the one on the touch.

Don't get one, yet. Apple is bound to release a new generation in 1-2 months. It's been a year since the last release.

Funny, my girlfriend just got a 32 gb Ipod Touch. I've already been fiddling around with it, and it's quite entertaining. Music, Apps, Movies, Internet, I wish I had myself one of those.

I'de say it's worth it.

Re: Thinking about getting an Ipod Touch

Personally, I can't stand any of apples products. They seem to be more about fads than anything else. Such as the current thing of cramming as much useless crap into whatever random object they decide is stylish at the time. From what I understand, the ipod was originally an mp3 player, then they decided to add video, then came internet, apps and every other useless thing they could cram into microchip. Honestly, no one has use for watered down internet, you can't do anything practical, can't print, can't do anything with anything you download without first having to transferring it to a regular computer, and if your going to do that, just use the regular computer. And you don't need 32 gigabytes on an ipod or any handheld device for that matter, hell most people don't even use that much on a regular pc running vista. Its just overkill to get more money for useless product.

Im not sure what you are wanting it for, whether it be for some practical reason, or if you just want it for the novelty of it. If you are wanting an MP3 player, there are plenty of 1-2-4 gig MP3 players for about 40-100 bucks. 4 gigs is more than anyone would ever need for music and honestly, that would be overkill in itself. I have nearly 200 MP3s of video game midis I converted to MP3 on my computer, and all of those barely take up more than 500 Megs so 4 gigs would hold close to 1600 songs. The average person doesn't even know that many songs. Skipping out on an Ipod you could just get the devices you want seperately and only pay half as much and not have to deal with apples worthless crap.

Did ANYONE bother to read? The touch is due for a hardware revision.

Re: Thinking about getting an Ipod Touch

I'd go with the nano. It's really quite annoying to have to use a touch screen to browse music because it forces you to look at the screen rather than just clicking the buttons.

Shadowofhyrule:
I already have more than 7 gig worth of music on mine. And I use it as a portable dvd player for movies too. (when i'm out of the house for a few days, I hook it up to whatever tv I have access too.) Therfore, a 4 gig mp3 player isn't going to come close to enough room, since i've used 27 gig of my old ipod.

Personally, I don't feel like waiting until christmas for the new release that will likely sell out very quickly due to the fact that 1) it's new 2) it's christmas.

And a nano doesn't have enough memory, and my eyes arn't too good. I don't want to get glasses, so i wouldn't be able to see the screen very well. I have trouble seeing my little brother's nano.

Oh, and they can print

Anyway, i'm going in the next few days. Since nobody really has anything negitive to say, other than the fact that it comes with so much stuff (which i think is a good thing ) i'm going to go ahead and buy one. Thanks for the help, guys.

All he has to do is get some third party headphones. I have a set of Sony headphones and they sound great.

Good luck with your purchase.

But videos aren't mp3s so of course they need more memory, but if you are simply wanting an mp3 player then that much mem is simply over kill. As I said, they're purpose not about making a simple reliable product, its about seeing how much crap they can cram into a single device. If they just made a good quality MP3 player, it would still hold several hundred songs and not cost anything near 200+ bucks, but they include all the other junk that is just completely unnecessary so they can rack up the price.

You only get horrible sound if you use the crappy earbuds they come with. I have some good Sony headphones for my Classic and the sound is terrific, and it gets better whenever I use my dad's Bose headphones.

Anyway, I have nothing against the iPod Touch except it has too little memory for me, but that's just for me and my classic. I borrowed my friend's Touch before. The apps are fun, and battery is pretty good. Go buy one if you don't have any memory issues.

No, not at all. For example, my Koss PortaPro's (they're actually headphones, not earphones) sound like crap on my iPod if it's a dynamic genre like techno, great on all computers I tried, and amazing on my old portable player.

I have never, ever used the earbuds that come with an iPod.

No, however it would sound terrific if you use a Line Out Dock on the iPod.
