Blue Screen After Attempting To Repair My Internet Connection
Hey ZU. I have a minor, but paranoia inducing problem. Whenever I try to repair my internet connection, my computer freezes and goes to the infamous blue screen, and I have to restart it. Nothing else is awry, but that is making me a bit worried because this just started today. Any thoughts on what this might be? It could be a virus but I have been doing updates and scans everyday using AVG free and Spybot S&D. Spyware wanting my IP address perhaps?

Re: Blue Screen After Attempting To Repair My Internet Connection
Try starting your computer in Safe Mode (without networking) to run a complete virus scan. After that, try fixing network setting inside the Safe Mode with networking.
To get in Safe Mode, restart > press F8 various times as the computer initiates. Choose Safe Mode without networking to perform the virus scan and then restart and select Safe Mode with networking after being done with the scan. The blue screen is pretty unpredictable. I don't know what the hell causes it, either. I remember turning off my network button one time, and that triggered the blue screen. |

Re: Blue Screen After Attempting To Repair My Internet Connection
Thanks for the advice. I tried doing the repair before your post, and it didn't go to the blue. However, just to be safe I'll do what you said. I just got this computer a few weeks ago and I don't want it to go to **** right away. Thank god I have a reinstall disc for XP just in case.
Edit: Well, nothing was found in safe mode, save for a few minor cookies. But I think I know how I fixed it. I removed some exceptions from my firewall, and bam. Fixed. I appreciate the lesson on safe mode, though. I didn't even know that existed.
