Google Wave

So, who out here applies for a Google Wave invite? Invites are supposedly going out today, and I'm pretty sure I've applied five times now just in the hope of getting any invite at all! I'm really excited about Wave - I really think that if it takes off it'll supersede email. Not fast, not by any means, but it certainly has the ability to.

So, since invites are going out today, and I haven't gotten one yet, I'm wondering if anybody else has! If you've gotten your Wave invite, let us patient people know what it's like until we get ours.

And, if anybody else strolls into this thread, and they don't know what it is, they don't have to open a new page and find it, becuase it would already be here.

So, it's kind of like facebook then? With a little more in it? Neat.

I'm glad someone thought of the idea of 'social networking website'. We really need one of those.

It's an extremely open and flexible new set of communication protocols. The goal is not to compete with facebook, myspace, etc... but to conjoin them, as well as do many other things.

By itself it acts as a sort of middle ground between an instant messenger and an email client, however, considering it's openness, it can be used to communicate with sites such as Facebook and Myspace, as well as sites like Digg and Reddit, and even our own ZU. It's goal is to unify all (or most) communication through one central hub, similar to the way that browsers today are beginning to serve as a central hub for all online actions.

It is also real time, which lends itself to many possibilities both with vanilla Wave and Wave + plugins.

Is it also a place for bands to market themselves? ****in' A!

So, I'm geeking out since its a cold night here in Jersey, and watching Google's quote; "Looooonnnnng video" (its an hour and twenty minutes, fitting title) on Google Wave. Its the "press release" kinda thing, just demoing the product.

And I am pretty damn impressed at twelve minutes in. What I've seen so far, Wave is the seemless binding of Email and IMs, which doesn't sound like much until you see it all play out infront of you, and realize just how powerful and innovative of a communications tool this really is.

Check it out.

I don't have an invitation or anything, but I'll see if there's anything on YouTube or something.

Its even crazier that while posting that, I was thinking "wow, this would be so much easier in a Wave."

Google is really getting on the ball lately, huh?

I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a new video game system.

Still waiting to see what this Wave thing is all about (Slow internet = long waiting times for videos D= ), but I'm expecting something cool.

I haven't gotten an invite yet...

I signed up right at the start too, the day that it was announced at Google I/O.

I just finished watching the whole thing, and it's mind blowing. Sure, I won't be using it for much outside of chat (and perhaps that translation extension, oh my God), but it's still crazy exciting.
