WiFi Problem

Okay, I've got two WiFi problems that I think are probably related.

First: My DS's test connection was successful, but when I try to get the mystery gift from the new Platinum Shaymin event, it keeps failing to connect.

Second: My Wii refuses to connect at all. The test connections have been failures as well.

The college's internet here is fail enough, but this is just stupid.

Certain routers won't work with Nintendo DS and Wii systems. Now, I'm not sure if that's the problem, but it could be, and it wouldn't hurt to check.

For example, my router works perfectly fine with my Wii, but it won't with my Nintendo DS. You can also check the Nintendo Help site and it will probably help you.

That's most likely due to the security I think.
I do had a problem with my wii when I got WEP on it, But I had in on shared, not open.(or the other way around)

Nope, I know that's not it. Because it worked just fine on both systems before.

Ask whoever is in charge of the connection if any changes have been made.

You've probably already done this, but if not... Delete your old connections and create new ones.

I have tried that.

And I have no idea who is in charge of the internet here.

Do you get any specific error messages when trying to connect, and if so, what do they say?

Then you can't do much about it, since its most likely the router.

Just the usual error code thing.

I even looked up the code I got on the Wii and it said the problem was something to do with the firewall. I guess I might not be able to do anything about this after all...

Are you sure that the network is using WEP encryption? I believe that WEP is the only kind of WiFi encryption that the DS supports. Do you have a computer to check what kind it's using?

If that was the problem, she couldn't even pass the connection test on her DS.

Exactly what Quin said. And my DS did have successful tests.

Did you register the Mac addresses? I've been able to get my PSP on the school wifi, but it wouldn't let me actually use it until the mac address was registered.

Mac? I don't use a Mac.

If its the WEP key security, I think it has something to do with that its either a shared or open key. I had the same thing. Some games only work with an shared key I think. (for me, it was animal crossing. The test was successful, but the game's online not, but if it was shared, my laptop refused to go online. My router has an automatic option though, so now I can do both.)

It also could be the way they have it configured-- do you have to use a specific program to log into the school's network? I do, so anything other than a computer would not work.

This would (or should) satisfy why you got successful tests but couldn't actually use the Internet.

2 things Crystal, first off google the error code you get. More time than not someone in this big mud ball of a planet has had the same problem, and some tech geek has fixed it already. 2nd would be taking your DS to a wifi hotspot (Starbucks has them. Or if you're lucky, like Oregon, all of Portland is one) and see if you can connect there. If you can then the problem is for sure the wifi on campus (and that way you can still get that cool DL thingy).

My issues with connecting to the net with a DS have always been the router. If that's the case you may just be **** Out of Luck. I don't remember but does the Wii have an ethernet port in it? If so you could connect it to your PC and bridge the connection. I do that with my 360 (because Microsoft sucks and doesn't have a system with a wifi unit built in). I'd check my wii to see if it does but I let a friend borrow it.
