Nope. I never used a clipping mask here. Just a brush and the glow effect set to...something other than normal. I forget.

You should try throwing a clipping mask or two over them, then. Set the layer effect to something weird, so that it really makes them accentuate the piece better.

Although, I think once you get rid of the over-shining, they may look rather sweet.

Ranil: I think the only problem I see is the lighting. You don't always have to have lighting (though, when done right, it does compliment a piece). Looks good enough, I guess. It's not anything special, but it's good.

True, but sometimes pieces don't make sense without lighting. I don't know why, but they just don't. Lighting also helps to add depth to a sig...sometimes. But yeah, if done right, it compliments a sig.

I don't like it, to be honest. It feels like the render was just slapped on. The match is neat, but the text is pretty ugly-- it doesn't blend well at all. Also, his shirt is way too red to match the rest of the piece.

I agree with TB. I think the render looks choppy in some places as well, but that can be fixed with blurring. Blurring helps choppiness most of the time, but only when it isn't severe. If a render is REALLY choppy, scrap it. It's useless.

I haven't been doing PS a lot. Here's something I've done over like a week.

Not bad at all, but the dots in the picture are really distracting and don't flow too well. Replace that with some lines and circles.

I made a signature with that render as well.

Yeah muzz, I dont like it. It looks terribly amatuerish, almost like a first signature. The text looks fugly and it looks like one of those juvenile 'brush a background and slap a picture on' signatures that plague deviantArt.

The lines are choppy and jagged in some spots - I would try tapering the ends by selecting 'simulate pressure' when you trace over the path, and use a calligraphic brush. The array of dots behind the flower is distracting, I would turn the opacity down, and make the transition to transparency smoother.

I used random 5 pt brushing, not pen tool, though regardless I know how to do that. I don't know what your opinion of choppy and jagged are but they look fine to me, also the fact that it's sized down from a HUGE picture may also do with it. I'll see what I can do with the dots.
