Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Took long enough, but here it is. This is where you vote for those comics submitted for the Sprite Comic Spectacular. Your votes could go a long ways in determining which comic ideas are considered for the main site! Be sure to read the old thread and get an idea of what the requirements were and what you are voting for.

SUBMISSIONS

Stupidmahn:

Sprite Set: Custom.

Plot Description: Somebody comes to hyrule, accidentally kills link, yadayadayada, forced to become the new link ;_;

Sample Comic: http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/4...lecomicib4.png

GoldStud:

Sprite Set: Custom.

Plot Description: I plan on Ganondorf and Link not liking each other, but for some funny reason getting stuck with each other, and saving Zelda from a giant crab. That's what I got.

Sample Comic: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...oproblem-1.png

Lurrrre!:

Sprite Set: Custom.

Plot Description: basically after this episiode Ganondorf is beaten again,
but his minnons soon figure out why link always wins.
because Gannon dorf was usually in charge when there plans went bad so the put two and two togather and vote GD out of the group. baiscal Gannon dorf and Link must team up to fight Hyrules more competent villan's.

Sample Comic: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/6...fgannonfn8.png

Dustfinger:

Sprite Set: A Link to the Past.

Plot Description: The henchmen strike back

Monty, a common moblin, and Steve, a somewhat morbid, pink slime, live their more or less average lives as loyal servants of the evil overlord Ganon. Day after day, they work hard for their money, pillage towns, commit murder, do their villain-stuff. Everything could be fine, if it wasn't for that one day: The day on which they discovered the plot! Yes, a plot within the rows of Ganon's army, in order to dispossess the great king of evil, conquer Hyrule and make life worth living again for the lower parts of evil society. So now, will Monty and Steve be able to defeat the rebels? Or will they even join the plot to escape the endless agony of slavery and start a new life? Or will they just be slain by their arch-enemy, their nightmare, the hero of time? One will see...

Sample Comic: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/8...tystevesz9.png

Blizzaga:

Sprite Set: Four Swords.

Plot Description: Four simple villagers are sent by Zelda to retrieve her Easter egg, an object shrouded by mystery and wonder. Red, Blue, Green, and Violet see this as their big break, a good start down the road to becoming Knight’s of Hyrule. But what starts as a simple mission quickly escalates out of control as they fight for their very survival. These four brothers now find themselves neck-high in epic adventure as they travel down the road to not only shaping their future, but also unlocking their mysterious past.

Sample Comic: http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/7125/ch232ka6.png

Dr. von Fish:

Sprite Set: BS Zelda.

Plot Description: A group of quirky and not-so-malicious monsters born and raised to be Ganon's minions live peacably as their master rules Hyrule...as peacably as being a monster can get with Link on the loose!

The comic will have a very loose plot. Monsters will be portrayed as having mostly normal existances, causing humor when that clashes with their monstrous nature. The plot will center around a specific group of tight-knit friends. Their adventures vary, but eventually, the plot might extend to them opposing Ganon's slaughter of lesser monsters to summon bosses or something, thus they oppose Ganon, inadvertantly helping Link on his quest.

Sample Comic: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a83...ish/dpptp1.png

So there you have it, vote away!

And yes, I am aware of the similarities of me and Dustfinger's ideas. Rest assured that is merely a coincidence.

Re: Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Stupid (considered):

I loved your comic, and your comic idea! It's hilarious =3

Is link killed later?

Goldstud (not considered):

=\ This comic could turn out to be really good, but we really wouldn't know! How could we choose your comic for the mainsite if all we have is like 3 panels to go off of?

Lure! (considered) :

LOL mass monster confusion! That was awesome Lure! I like where this is going!

Dustfinger (considered) :

HAHAHA I LOVED it! The ideas are great and the comic is very well done! I applaud you!

Blizzaga (1/2 considered) :

I like your comics, blizz. Just...for some odd reason...I don't think that comic went anywhere. From the comic title we saw at the end of the last title, we could just assume what happened in this one...it wasn't really funny at all, and just moved along the story, sorta.

Fishy (considered) :

I love the idea of the school you have set up there, and the joke was awesome XD

Now for my final decision...drumroll please....

DUSTFINGER! I shall vote you on to victory!

Re: Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Stupidmahn:
The graphics are wonderful! I love the glowing background and that grass in the foreground! The speech bubbles are very nice, too!
I also like your idea.^^

Goldstud: Your graphics are also very nice! It's hard to say much, because it is very small... The story is also a bit thin, but I'm sure it will become good.^^

Lurrrre!
Woohoo! Awesome! I love the team of evilness (or stuff), especially ret...Onox! A few typos, but nothing serious.

Dustfinger:

Blizzaga: I liked it! Your graphics are awesome as usual, though the story is a bit thin in this one. But I like the idea with the "back-stabbing" wizzrobes.^^ And last but not least:

von Fish: A bit short, but it shows your idea of normal monster-lifes very well.^^ Did you use photos of a real TV for your backgrounds? They look a bit...well... TV-ish...^_^

Well, whom did I vote for? Noone knows...
Not for me, of course, that wouldn't be sporting.

Re: Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Here be my last judgement for the next two years. Enjoy.

Stew: Funny stuff! You overdid it with the speech ballooons though, and the font wasn't that good. The last part with Link was hard to read. It's always good to not use so much of the same color. In fact, it probably would have been better to use the speech bubbles. Overall, a vast improvement. 6/10

GoldStud: Words cannot describe my love for your comic (). I get the feeling that you made that with me in mind. It was perfect. 10/10

Lurrrrre!: Epic. Pure epicness. There were a lot of mistakes though that can easily be fixed (if you saved the Photoshop file and kept the layers) if you want. First, the text wasn't aligned in the speech bubbles very well. Second, one of the speech bubbles was cut off on two sides: the right end of the comic, and the panel below it. It will be easier when you master the layers. Also, though there were still some spelling errors, this is probably your best comic so far in the light of there being less typos. Keep it up! 8/10

Also...I loved the background!

Dustfinger: First, your comic seems way too large horizontally. When people read, it's easier to read from top to bottom. With it taking longer to do that with yours, it's harder to do that, thus, making it more uncomfortable to read. You could easily cut the horizontal size of your comic in half and make it more a more comfortable read. Aside from that, everything was great! 8.5/10

Dr. Fish:

It was funny. The only problem I had with it was the background, which kept screwing with my eyes. Aside from that, it was very entertaining. Nice job. 9/10

Blizzaga: I'm too biased of this guy to give a fair judgement. So...yeah.

Great work, everyone! ^_^

Re: Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Stupidmahn: The graphics, sprites and background, were pretty good. The joke was humorous, but the absurdness of it is not my favorite type of humor. The text was annoying and hard to read, especially with the green and red outer glows you put on some of it. Use an easier to read font, and make the glow a bit softer. The frames were organized somewhat randomly, leaving a lot of empty space in the background; and the empty space was an annoying and bright color; you should just leave the background black.

GoldStud: Very nice, the graphics were great, the text was flawless, the joke was funny, and the organization was perfect. However, the comic was altogether too small.

Lurrrrrrrrrrre!!!: You really need to work on your grammar and spelling. Also, the text you used was rough and choppy, because it was aliased. When you write text, make sure you have the anti-aliasing setting on. The shading on the speech bubbles was inconsistent, and annoying. Some bubbles were almost entirely shaded gray, others were completely unshaded white. None of them had an outline, and they were all aliased and had some outer glow and a shadow behind them. I think you should make the bubbles more flat, rather than shaded and shadowed, and give them a thick black border.

Dustfinger: This one was definitely my favorite, and the one I voted for. Link to the Past graphics = win. The characters had well defined personalities, the humor was great but not too absurd to mess with any storytelling. I also like the idea; following around a couple average monsters instead of a main character like Link or Ganon. The text was great, as were the text sound effects. I think Blizzaga is wrong about the vertical vs. horizontal thing, I've always found it easier to read from left to right rather than from up to down. Making it longer vertically would involve more downward scrolling, and more transitions from the right side of the page to the left side of the next row, which would actually make it harder to read.

Blizzaga: Ah, another great Zeldish comic. The graphics are spectacular, especially the backgrounds. The text is great too, as is the organization. However, the story is somewhat confusing and the humor is lacking and ineffective.

Mr. Fish: The sprites were good, but the background was annoying and blurry. The text was fine, and the joke was okay. Although, I noticed you misspelled octorok.

Re: Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Part of me wished that I had been more active here so that I could submit mine... but then I remembered that I post mine on 3 different sites, so it's not really a "ZU Exclusive". Ah well.

May the best comic win!

Re: Sprite Comic Spectacular - Voting!

Wow, this is old. I had almost forgot about it.

So Blizzaga is the winner...again. He went out with quite the bang, even though his comic did not technically qualify for the contest. Congrats to Blizzy, even though he may not be here to appreciate it.

As far as the main site project goes, the ZUMD seems to be stalling. If a main site sprite comic does go up, I imagine the plot will be a meld of mine and Dustfinger's ideas: telling the story of Zelda from the monster's perspective. That, of course, is still up in the air as to whether it will even exist, so we'll tackle that hurdle when we get there. Thanks to all the competitors, and you may kick me for waiting so long to bring closure to this.
