Top Ten Sprites of All Time- Nominations
Here we go.-THE QUEST- FOR THE GREATEST SPRITES O F _ A L L _ T I M E ![]() Welcome to the thread that will become a shrine to the greatest spritres mankind has to offer. Please read the instructions carefully and we will be glad to have you participate, thank you. ![]() We have gathered here to seek out, nominate, and elect the number 1 sprite ever to have left someones paintbrush. Were we to include animations, this contest might become too large for us mortals to grasp. So, nominations are limited to 1 pose of 1 sprite. Find a sprite that you love, from any game, from any system, or any custom or edited sprite ever made, be it by you or Nintendo or Sega. Post it as your nomination. You may nominate as many single sprites as you wish. Let the search cover all of early and new games! Let us crash the Spriter's Resource server with hits, as we search to find that sprite that enchanted us as children, that made us become spriters. Remember, 1 pose, of one sprite. Tell us why you nominated that sprite, and why you think that it will become the number one. After a period of time, we will collect them all, review them, and create a poll (possibly in a different section of ZU) where the final battle will take place. Thank you for reading this, and hope to have all of your help and support. |

Re: Top Ten Sprites of All Time- Nominations
Yay, first nomination!
![]() Nomination 1: Balrog ![]() This simple yet handsome sprite from the game "Cave Story" of the great programmer Pixel is in my opinion one of the best sprites ever made, because it is awesome. And it's awesome because it's one of the best sprites ever made. ![]() Nomination 2: The Core ![]() This sprite, also from the game "Cave Story" shows that 8-bit-sprites still can be beautiful. Nomination 3: Tex ![]() This sprite from the game "River City Ransom" or "Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari" in Japan, is (like all sprites in the game) one of the funniest sprites I've ever seen. Well, there are so many awesome sprites out there, but the three ones above are enough. Choose wisely, ZUers! ![]() |

Re: Top Ten Sprites of All Time- Nominations
GS, I highly suggest you give a limit to the nominations that one person can make. I move for two.

Re: Top Ten Sprites of All Time- Nominations
Well let's think about it.
There are about maybe 6 or 7 active users here. If we can only nominate 2 sprites per person, we would pick 10 out of the 14, not providing the absolute best sprites there are. We'd quickly pick off the worst 4 and go on our way picking some crummy sprites as the "top ten best sprites of all time." I suggest we nominate ten. Goldstud would then seperate all the groups of nominated sprites to make the following method work: He would randomly place all the sprites in groups of ten, or whatever the following way would work. He would open a thread and under the headers of "Section 1, Section 2" he'd put the random combinations of sprites. Then the people would vote for 1 sprite per each section. That sprite would move onto the next round. If that method works out to have exactly ten sprites left, that's awesome, if not, then GS would open a poll to decide between the few remaining. =3

Heh, Nice, Dustfinger. I especially like the tex sprite, he is funny. It was good that you scaled those sprites.

Anyway, just do exactly what dustfinger did and we'll be great! |

Alright. Three sounds good. Everyone nominating ten is just messy.

Re: Top Ten Sprites of All Time- Nominations
I nominate five.
![]() Dark World Blacksmith Frog ![]() You may recognize this sprite as the Blacksmith's parter in A Link to the Past. To me he represents a lot about what was great in that Zelda game; especially the secrets and feel of improvement you got from tempering your sword! Not only that, he's way cool and has a little blue toga. Nomination 2: Key-Hunting Face ![]() I'll be honest- when I was little, this sprite gave me nightmares. Playing Mario Bros. 2, you go through that door to the opposite dimension (a little scare to start), and then find a key and all the sudden these nightmare faces come after you! I gotta hand it to Nintendo, but they rolled out one scary mask. It's smiling, but in a merciless joker sort of way. Not only that, but they did it with 3 colors. I was impressed. Nomination 3: You may think I'm nominating a Bowser sprite here, but no. This is Random Homicidal Clown-Mobile ![]() Honestly, what could be more random? And, at the same time, what could be more classic... this sprite brings back a lot of memories for me. The Clown-Mobile has only seldom appeared in later mario games, such as Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario. However, you only battled it in the memorable ending of Super Mario World. This sprite definetaly deserves a place in the hall of the world's greatest sprites. Nomination 4: Ganondorf ![]() Me being the humble and sensitive person I am, of course I would nominate one of my own creations. If animations were allowed, I would have gone with the walking of his (or maybe Epona galloping) but this pose really stuck out to me. Twilight Princess Ganondorf is one of the just so dang cool-lookin characters, up there with Iron Man and Goku, and I couldn't deny him a shot at the #1 seat. The disadvantage is that he hasn't been in a game before, so there's none of the emotional attatchment you get from a character in it's own world. So, G-dorf will have to make it on sprite-technique alone. Nomination #5: Crono and Marle ![]() My favorite sprite of all time. |
