Adventures of the Links

The last time I was here, it was due to one of your members (well, ex-members) stealing my comic and claiming it as his own. You may recall it - if not, go here.

Back then, I was extremely hot-headed and was mostly bent on destroying the thief. As I've grown, I've become much more laid back and calm, and have since forgiven zeo (we've talked a bit since the incident, and he knows what he did was wrong). With this behind me, I've decided to return to ZU on a much... happier note.

Anyway, Adventures of the Links (the comic) is now complete, with 150 Episodes in the main series and a few extras for the sake of not having anything better to do. Ideally, I plan to create a second comic, hopefully using new art tools and such (as this first project used MS Paint primarily, which is often the focus of the gags in the strip).

Enough history.

Judging by the popularity this comic generated a couple of years ago, I thought I might post it here. I've redone a lot of the comics in order to clean up the language for younger audiences (just in case).

If there was anything worse than committing a Gannon ban felony, it's the number one sprite comic crime: Introductory comics! GUCK!

But, I can't wait to see how the comic improves.

Ha - yeah, I know what you mean about intro comics. I created that back in June of 2005, actually. After that, everybody on my old forum that made a comic started with an intro comic... and it always looked similar to this one... I sometimes beat myself up about making an intro comic, but at the time I felt it necessary.

I think I remember this on another forum, though I only got up to Mario's introduction, and I do remember the incident with the theft a few years back. Considering I can't remember for the life of me where the orignal forum this was posted was, I'm glad you brought it here.

I had originally posted it on The Forest Haven (Zelda Central).

Somebody had also asked me to post it in Zelda Underground, though I kinda forgot about it later on and... yeah, I don't know what happened to it.

I also posted it in Kakariko Graveyard, but I think I would recognize you if you were from there.

All right - it's Monday, and time for the first comic of Adventures of the Links!



This was my first attempt at spriting, and it shows - these first couple of comics are pretty lackluster. As I grew in spriting (and age), the comics got a lot better, which you'll probably see later on.

Remember, this was in 2005 - about a year and a half before TP came out, to be precise.

I like how it started off with his hat and the speech bubbles are good I give you a 5.6/10

What's with Link's colors? They're darker than the actual sprites from TMC. Did you do that on purpose, or was it that way in the sheet? Well, regardlress, it's not a big deal.

Part of this was because I had multiple sheets for Green Link, and they were each uploaded slightly differently, so the greens were different. Not a huge deal, but enough to be noticed. So I recolored them all for the purpose of uniformity.

I recolored the other 3 Links as well:
Red needed hair that wasn't purple (ewwww)
Blue needed color (mostly his skin)
Purple needed eyes and skin that would make him look human

Makes sense. I kinda like it Green's pallete better when it's darker, as opposed to the lighter scheme used in the FS games.

New comic. Like the last one, this isn't that great. They start getting better after this (in my opinion), since it starts making fun of the Zelda world more.



I realized yesterday that if I do three a week, I'd have the entire series posted in a year. That's bad, because I want to start on a new one sooner than that (particularly because I'll be on my way to student teaching in a year). I'm thinking that after this week I'll start posting more of them per day, not only to get the story moving, but also to make way for the Second Story.

The comic isn't very pretty (I know they'll get better, as you said) but I enjoyed reading it. It was pretty funny, gave me a good chuckle. Only thing I can complain about is you need to stray away from words like "Duh!" unless it adds to the character development, which may be true; in which case, my point is void.

Overall, and so far, 6.95/10

Good to see some fresh stuff in the shanty.

This last one was HILARIOUS! I lol'd.

The blue link will simply be my favorite.

I loved it the jelouse hat and the diffent links make it more origanl than most four sword based comics, most of the do like a cheep ninja turtles ripoff to it like ones smart, ones dumb ,ones brave and ones has anger issues but each link is a differnt person and this one made me giggle 6.7/10 Keep it up because if you don't I shall sprite you to death!

Nice! Like others have said it's not the most pretty comic I've ever seen but I believe you when you say it gets better. Plus it's pretty funneh, I'll be looking forward to more.

Oh, this comic doesn't really get much better in the looks department. I'll admit that after a while (around Chapter 7 or so) I start using a little bit of Picture Editor and PhotoShop, but one of the running gags is that this is a low budget comic (this will be more evident later on. The plot and humor, however, do get much better.

Since I won't be around much tomorrow, I'm posting Friday's comic today. This is where things start to pick up, both plot- and humor-wise.

A reminder that, starting next week, I'm going to start posting 2-3 (maybe more) every MWF, to move this along. I'm planning to create a sequel, but I need to make it before I start student teaching in the Fall of 2009, and if I were to continue at the present rate, I'd have THIS adventure done by then (which would mean no sequel - bad news).

Oh, I liked this last comic. Very clever writing. Having the four Links from different generations was a very original idea, and you act well on it.

Although I would like to see some new comics from you. I don't see why you couldn't just show us all your comics at once and then start making new ones; it honestly wouldn't take that long for a reader to catch up. But if giving us these updates of an old comic is keeping you online here (as opposed to you dumping your comics here then leaving forever), then I guess I'm all for that.

Excelent work! I love the humor in this. The personalities of the sprites are pretty funny too.
