Spriter's Hangout Ver. 6 -- The Shanty-pire Strikes Back

This thread is meant to be something of a "Community Thread" for the Spriters of ZU. It's purpose is to provide a place to discuss nearly anything concerning sprites, sprite comics, and the Sprite Comic Shantytown of ZU, as well as providing a place to exhibit sprite edits or customs to gain the community's critique. Here are the rules, preserved from Flying Dutchman's glorious reign.

• NO Spamming. It's okay to chat a little bit, but keep it somewhat on topic, okay?
• NO comics. NO advertising your or somebody else's comic. First time will get your post deleted, second time will be warnings, and so on.
• If you need sprites, come here. Don't make seperate threads, please. They make me a sad moderator. D:
• Likewise, if you're a spriter low on inspiration, you can ask people for ideas here! Don't go off making your own 'Sprite Shop' threads just because you're bored and you wanna make sprites. In fact, just don't make them.

The Correct Terms:

Bittage:The technical limit to the number of colors a sprite's console could display, therefore affecting the sprite's detail. 8-Bit=NES type sprites, 16-Bit=SNES, Genesis type sprites, 32-bit=GBA type sprites, etc.

Custom/Scratch:Made fully by yourself, pixel by pixel, no base.

Edit/Partial Custom: Editing an already existing sprite to your liking. Uses a base.

Hybrid/Mixture/Splicing: Using multiple sprites to form a new one. Sometimes also named 'Frankenstein'.

Minor Edit/Light Edit/Small Edit: Editing a sprite very small, such as adding Mega Man's head to Bass' body, removing Protoman's shield, etc.

Recolor: Changing the colors on a sprite and leaving it there. The act of recoloring is necessary for edits and splices to exist, but just recoloring an existing sprite and calling it your own is called a 'Recolor', and is mostly frowned upon.

Revamping: When you edit an older version/generation of a sprite with the newer styles being used so it looks like the present style/Better quality.

De-vamping: The opposite of revamping when you get a newer sprite and turn it into an older generation looking sprite.

Public Domain: A sprite/sprite sheet that can be used by and edited by anyone, without giving credit to the original creator.

Spriter: Somebody who makes or edits sprites for himself or for others.

Sprite comic creator/maker: Somebody who makes sprite comics.

@Lurrrre!'s sprites: Is that head 8-bit? The colors and design kinda remind me of old school Final Fantasy 1 sprites.

Each new hangout is the mark of a new dynasty, signifying a new legacy, i.e., Mr. Fish's modship.

Lets try to keep this hangout mostlly about sprites but I'm not saying it isn't fun to have a good conversation!

Upon reading your post, I actually did some investigative work into SmackJeeves, since I've more than one thought about hosting a comic there, and while it does seem they have been banning many spriters, its only because many spriters are guilty of harassing other members, which the staff there has been trying to crack down on. An admin did mention banning all spriters, but...

From your post, I thought SJ was tired of Sprite Comics and was purging them all. But it just seems like they're getting rid of annoying members, unless you know something I don't.

While the original Spriter's Hangout was more of a place to post sprites for critique, it has evolved into more of a community discussion for the Shantytown. You can still post your sprites in here for all to see and critique, but you can also expect some more casual chat on topics of spriting along the way.

Well, until Mr. Fish starts up a Sprite Comic lounge, I don't see that becoming possible, not to mention, Mr. Fish locked the entry thread prematurely so we can't discuss our enthusiasm and anticipation until the contest starts. :/

No. I've tried calling him twice today. The first time, his mom sent him out to harvest strawberries, and she said she'd tell him I called. The second time, no one was here to answer.
