Re: GSnL- Bringing Good Games to Our Good People
Yes! That's how cool we are.
OK... I'm Posting a Demo. Grab a friend, because this one is 2-player! It features my nifty Damage system with 4 types of damage. Also, for fun I made little squares pop up for you to collect. If you get 20 before the other player, you win! Also, losing all your health will cost you 5 squares. Right now there's just the level you play on, no menus or anything, so here are the controls: Player 1: Arrow keys move, <shift> in the air is your grapple hook, hold it and release it to let go Player 2:WASD moves, and <Z> is your grapple hook The level has normal, fire, ice, and electric damage that you have to avoid, as well as jump-through platforms and moving blocks. And as a fun demonstration of my damage system, you also have a cool buzzsaw that follows the mouse around. Here's how it works: The buzzsaw constantly moves towards your mouse. When it hits a player, the magnitude of the player's reaction is based on the speed at which the mouse hit them. So, if you creep the mouse up to them, the saw will buzz away and they will move only a little bit. But, if you move the mouse at them quickly you can knock them around. Don't forget to play with the mouse! Download Demo Here |

I played it and the buzzsaw is cool.
Whoa the flameing block wall reminds me of an SFX I made, but I like the freeze how rather than its just frozen he turns blue then ice's over and then the water evaporates whoop! the lighting shock effect is cool and reminds me of the crono electricty. woo I love it and the grapple of goump! |

Wow this is a great engine. I can't wait for your awesome sprites to be there instead of these primitive blocks, but the gameplay should come first. That's one thing many game developers fail on nowadays... even the big name ones. They focus too much on making it look realistic, and create this craptastic game with awe-inspiring graphics. If you are going to make it look good, you oughtta make it play good.
I believe your game will be both fun, and visually pleasing. I gotta say, I love the grappling hook. It makes your game that much more unique, and professional. I have yet to see a platformer engine on the game-maker forums with a grappling hook... or really one at all with this much effort put into it. You pretty much have everything they have... except yours is much more smooth and polished. Much much more. But now that I've seen all the movement, I'm curious as to how you are going to implement attacks into it. Will they all be on one button? Will the arrow keys play a role on the type of attack (Like in Super Smash Bros.)?
