Do you feel third-party franchises should be kept in the Smash series?

Mandrag: Robotnik would be better suited to an assist trophy IMO. Although that's only because i think they'll only add one new sonic character and knuckles is the best choice.

I don't know why anyone thinks Snake DOESN'T fit in. Have any of you played as him in a free-for-all? It's a hilarious explosion fest.

Oh yeah, I forgot to give my opinions.

Sonic should stay, he's very iconic, and Snake should stay, he's very unique in the series.

A few 3rd-parties are nice, they give the game a bit of spice. Mega Man is a must-have for the next installment. Another good choice would be Bomberman, I'd love to see him there. A good Square-Enix representative would be Crono from Chrono Trigger, or maybe a generic "Hero" from Dragon Quest.

However, I would hate for each 3rd-party company to have more than one representative. I really hate it when people suggest extra Sonic characters. Sonic and Knuckles or Tails, maybe. In fact, more characters from the same, 3rd party series? It's almost a waste. Why not characters from other SEGA games?

SEGA -
Konami - ****ing Alucard or a Belmont, PLEASE
Capcom - Mega Man (definitely), Ryu (the iconic fighting game character), Viewtiful Joe (would fit right in)
Square - Crono, Hero, Warrior of Light, Geno

I would like to see both Sonic and Snake back in, I don't know, they were a nice adittion I think.

I would like to see Megaman, also a Final Fantasy character, most specifically, a Black Mage, I think a generic Black mage with the blue robe and yellow hat is the best representation of the Final Fantasy series. I doubt this would happen but I think Ryu, from Street Fighter would fit quite well, and I think he really deserves it. I also doubt it, but a Soul Calibur character would be awesome, probably Siegfried if it ever happened.

Also, don't know if it counts as third party, I think he's owned by Nintendo, but Isaac would be one of the best additions Smash Bros. could get, and considering the fact that he was an assist trophy and that the Golden Sun series are back, it's quite a possibility. I also hear he is wanted to be in since Melee.

Just out of curiosity what makes a character fit in? In a game with acrobatic plumbers, atomic farts, talking hedgehogs, hungry pink blobs and dinosaurs, gorillas wearing ties, two dimensional characters, walking bombs, electric rodents, floating disembodied hands, and turnip plucking, what's with some bearded guy that blows stuff up causing problems?

Square has ownership of him. That's why he's only been in two games, and both of those games had SquareSoft/Enix in the credits.

He's an assist trophy. He jumps on screen and yells "BAM! LOGIC!" and everybody dies. Kinda like a Phoenix Wright assist trophy, except I don't know anything about Professor Layton outside this one trailer I saw and he probably doesn't have a proper pain-inducing catch-phrase like "OBJECTION!" or "TAKE THAT!" or "HOLD IT!".

I totally agree with that. They'd be a great addition.

As for third party characters I am impartial to them. So long as they keep the classics I'm happy. I thought that in the adventure mode of Brawl that Snake kind of fit in. Sonic....did not. He was just thrown in there at the end. And his final smash was too hard to control.

As long as they don't go overboard with Sega/Sony/Microsoft characters, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple for each SSB installment.

Leon from RE. Totally Leon. Think about how well he would fit in! Especially with RE4's success on the GC.

No such thing as a 'microsoft' character. Microsoft just made the console, not the games. Rather true for sony aswell, although I think they do actually have some first party games, but not many.

There aren't Microsoft characters? What would you call the cast of HALO or Blinx or Fusion Frenzy?
