Re: Melee vs Brawl
Its actually easy to cancel marth's final smash, IIRC you can stop it with B, A and Z. Saved me from alot of deaths.

Oh okay. It's hilarious to watch CPU Marths kill themselves though. XD

Ok. Ok. How's that luck? Just because someone uses the reflector and it backfires at you it's all luck? That's not luck, that's skill and great timing. That's why I said all you have to do is get the hammer first.

Re: Melee vs Brawl
If there a hole in the stage I always let my opponent grab the hammer, perfect shield and trow haha. Perfect shield is not that hard in this game, although I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't reflect projectiles like in melee.

Re: Melee vs Brawl
What do you mean about not backfiring? I said FS that you have to hit to activate isn't a backfire.

Re: Melee vs Brawl
Brawl was quite the ambitious game, even for today's standards in gaming. The Subspace Emissary and its cutscenes we're quite amazing(although I could've done without going through each level again near the end of the game)
Now, I grew up with the original and melee, and I have countless nostalgic memories, but I cannot deny that brawl has more variety than its predecessors'. Besides, Diddy Kong is my best character :p

Re: Melee vs Brawl
Melee's gameplay for me is far better than Brawl's, but Brawl does have more characters, stages and random thingy-mabobs, as well as a bearable online which can be fun.
However, I have much more fun playing Melee, the competitive carcass that I am, and can safely say that if I could travel freely or play Melee online laglessly then I'd barely touch Brawl. Pretty much Brawl is probably the better game to the majority of casual gamers, whereas people that enjoy following the smash competitive scene and/or playing competitively likely prefer Melee's gameplay. So yeah, Brawl is the better game but I vastly prefer Melee.

Re: Melee vs Brawl
Melee has no story line, and Brawl's storyline sucks ass.

Re: Melee vs Brawl
Well, I'll base this mostly on personal experience since anything else would result in... well, failure. I got Melee myself relatively late, but I did have the pleasure of playing it with other people several times. I'm no competitive player, it's nothing in it for me to try and become the best of the best, which is probably why it was very easy to move from Melee to Brawl. Now, Brawl I admit has several flaws. Online being the biggest by far. The Subspace Emissary was decent for a few runs but then there wasn't a point in ever touching it again. The Classic Mode is good. I personally find all the additions that Brawl made to be nice ones. Stage Creator wasn't the most exploited idea, but I gotta say I've actually enjoyed making some stages that really make some ****ed up matches. The boss battle mode can be kinda redundant to do with all of the characters, but redundant is Smash Bros.'s middle name. And then there's the vastly improved multiplayer. That's where Brawl shines greater than Melee and Smash Bros. 64 ever did.
I guess what I'm saying is, what Brawl did do, it did better than Melee. All except for the competitive part, I guess XP

That was my point. Melee doesn't have a story line.

Re: Melee vs Brawl
The items, characters, stages, extra modes, etc. etc. are all good and all. People can enjoy all the fluff they want. But when I play a game, I enjoy PLAYING THE GAME. I don't care about the music, plot, and all the extras. As long as the control is good, and the game is fun, that's what matters. It's funny when people rave about story, or about graphics, and about this and that, and then they forget about why they're playing a video game
In that sense, Melee is FAR SUPERIOR to Brawl. Brawl is full of stupid, broken, and highly unbalanced techniques and characters. Balance and techniques are absolutely essential to a fighting game. When you have a game where you can hard counter another character, and that game isn't called Pokemon, there is something highly wrong.

When playing the game for fun, you don't even notice those things much.
