All Summer Brawl Tournament: Can you take the heat?

Ok so we (Aura Pulse and I) wanted to start a Summer brawl tournament. So we know people have plans in the Summer, but we hope you guys can join.

Time for some rules :

There will be a 20 man roster.

17 beat 16 (2-0)

Second round:

5 beat 4 (4 dropped out; which is worse than losing)

Each round will have two week deadlines except for the first round which will have three week deadlines.
You need to be able to access your wii most of the time.

I have access to my wii pretty much all the time, I start working full time mid July, but I should be able to work it out.

Yes, but it has to be reasonable and not like change the whole thing at once. Just tell me what you want changed and I'll tell you if I can.

How about you use the list Smashboards provides, from people who have done the legwork and have taken character advantages and broken strategies into consideration before they ban and allow stages?

Yeah, we won't be affected a lot from an instant-kill, randomly spawning item. Either have an items tournament, or a non-items tournament--trying to combine the two is stupid. If items are on at any time, I personally won't be joining.

Ok, there will be a twist in round rules. There will be point given to every one able to complete this. You'll play a best 2 out of 3 stock battle, 3 stocks no time limit. Whoever wins that gets a point and then they will play a free for all and it will be a 3 minute time limit. Whoever wins that gets a point. If there is a tie you'll do a battle what ever the host wants and there will only be one of that match and that's the tie breaker. The only time this changes, is the finale and that will be best 3 out of 5.

Okay that's confusing and overly complicated. Best two out of three, 3 stock 8 mins (having no time limit promotes ROB AND Snake camping) is so much better.

When you introduce random weird rules like this, you never know what characters/stages you might be giving the advantage to. Smashboards have done the legwork and worked to make their ruleset as fair as possible--if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We would like as many as at least 8 referees, but there can be more and we can go as low as 4. You don't need a referee, but it would help if there was someone to witness the match. If you are a referee then you depleat your lives and you stay out of the match. If you want to be a ref. then tell me in your post and I'll put your name down.

Why why whyyyyy do we need referees? No one wants to be a referee ever, it adds MORE lag to games, and the honour system works fine. There's always sending replays to an adjudicator if you suspect your opponent is distrustful.

How about you give a list and I'll try to take what you say.

Like I said if you can give me some ideas then I'll think about it.

That was basically just explaining whya dding twists like that doesn't work.

I also propose that the first match needs to be played on the a neutral stage, but the second (and third) can be played on any neutral/counter.

The actual match rules are made so just incase certain people aren't good in one mode (such as stock battles) they can have comfort in timed battles or coin matches, I personally never do coin matches but using it in a tournament makes for an interesting challenge. That's what this (and every tournament I make, or FD makes,) tournament is about. Challenge. Although, you make a fair and good point on the time limit reasons for stock battles. We'll change that.

Referees are completely OPTIONAL. To probably have an outside eye incase any mistakes or misunderstandings occur during matches., (that may result in two players arguing over who really won or what is really fair.) It's just an optional fall back for players wanting to avoid any conflict, and no one HAS to be involved with the ref system at ALL. No one NEEDS refs like you say.


All of your references to Smashboards are very understanable, we just wanted to come up with original ideas and rules and go from there. Using the same rules for a tournament constantly gets boring. We aren't trying to "fix" any rules that I agree do not need fixing. Our intention was respectful originality.

Also, we all can agree that spamming items all over gets annoying, and results in victories for people who just happened to have a lucky break more often than people with skill. This is why we only have the Smash Ball, set on LOW. We aren't going in between, we are using items. The Smash Ball counts as an item, how is it in between? It isn't the end of the world, even WITH a SB on the field, you have the chance to get it, the chance to use it, and the chance to avoid it. Even with temporary power inbalance, overall it remains a fair fight because you always have just as much a chance at this power as your opponent.

Last thing, why do you complain about the loser's bracket? It's just a fun consolation activity for the losers to compete for 3rd place. Optional competition, just like the tournament itself. It also promotes involvement for a good side activity to keep track of over the summer.

Will you be able to get on anytime later? You may be able to do the first few rounds, but it's up to you. I say go for it anyone who wishes to join can no matter what. We just reccoment frequent access potential.
