All Summer Brawl Tournament: Can you take the heat?

IMPORTANT: Do you have access to Brawl in a good amount of time THROUGHOUT the summer?: I have school all of your summer (mind you, I'm in a different country with different seasons and a different school cycle). But I can Brawl anytime I'm not at school (until 4:00PM or 2:00PM).

The actual match rules are made so just incase certain people aren't good in one mode (such as stock battles) they can have comfort in timed battles or coin matches, I personally never do coin matches but using it in a tournament makes for an interesting challenge. That's what this (and every tournament I make, or FD makes,) tournament is about. Challenge. Although, you make a fair and good point on the time limit reasons for stock battles. We'll change that.

Referees are completely OPTIONAL. To probably have an outside eye incase any mistakes or misunderstandings occur during matches., (that may result in two players arguing over who really won or what is really fair.) It's just an optional fall back for players wanting to avoid any conflict, and no one HAS to be involved with the ref system at ALL. No one NEEDS refs like you say.

How could people disagree on what's fair? There's a clear difference between spamming a move and glitching. No one really wants it and it adds lag. (didn't you say you needed four? I took that to mean "unless we get four the tournament won't start".

All of your references to Smashboards are very understanable, we just wanted to come up with original ideas and rules and go from there. Using the same rules for a tournament constantly gets boring. We aren't trying to "fix" any rules that I agree do not need fixing. Our intention was respectful originality.

Originality =/= good/fun. Smashboards have tested their rules and they've proved to be effective. It's also the basepoint for the competitive community, which is how most of the ZU smashers like to play, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, we all can agree that spamming items all over gets annoying, and results in victories for people who just happened to have a lucky break more often than people with skill. This is why we only have the Smash Ball, set on LOW. We aren't going in between, we are using items. The Smash Ball counts as an item, how is it in between? It isn't the end of the world, even WITH a SB on the field, you have the chance to get it, the chance to use it, and the chance to avoid it. Even with temporary power inbalance, overall it remains a fair fight because you always have just as much a chance at this power as your opponent.

Not when the SB randomly appears in front of your opponent, or too high for DK to reach--MK can reach it easily.

It throws a variable into the game that you definitely haven't considered the possibilities of.



Last thing, why do you complain about the loser's bracket? It's just a fun consolation activity for the losers to compete for 3rd place. Optional competition, just like the tournament itself. It also promotes involvement for a good side activity to keep track of over the summer.

ZU tournaments just plainly don't finish. Having a loser's bracket is making things longer and less likely to actually finish.

I'm waiting Kitsun. You join, I change some of the rules.

2. It gets other good brawlers in it.

I'm sure if you change the rules you'll get some more people joining - SVB already said he disliked the rules, and I'm thinking TK and Bobby will like these rules more. *shrug* Others will probably follow suit.

It's the way you feel it is. It may be serious to someone, but it could be just for fun to someone else.

Ew, but yes good point. I really shouldn't have used "original" I guess, what's the same is 'not the same as before therefor it isn't old and inspires people to try it'?

That's another definition, but it's all part of the concpet of 'challenge'. My goal was to shake things up, and to find people who were willing to try their powers at new things with the same goal, and hopefully have fun while they are at it. This may not be like every other tournament, it's just a new thing and if it doesn't fly well i'll just make changes in my next tournament. The QK Tournament wasn't planned properly, but it was just a neat little concept, 'what if people competed with hgih attack power, but low defense?' it was fun to see it unravel, but no one enjoyed it, so i learned from my mistake. I'll do the same with this, too.

To be honest, FD added the NEED for four referees, I just reccomended "at least". It WOULD be unreasonable to halt a tournament because of an unavailability of OPTIONAL fall backs. And about disagreeing, you never know what happens to make two people argue. It could be over the craziest thing, it could be over something reasonable. That's where judging would lay.

You are right. But the variables are what make it fair, no one forces you to play as DK. You go with what you work best with, no one tells you to go after the SB. Free will of choosing and acting for BOTH people combined with RANDOM SB spawnings = fair fight.

As long as their is a champion it can be considered finished. You don't NEED to compete in the loser's Bracket. It's just there for fun. Like the entire tournament.

Actually, no, that isn't a fair fight. Randomness is what takes away from fairness. Especially is when the randomness can decide the whole battle, considering what smashballs do.

But if people don't compete in the loser's bracket, then how will it finish? No loser's bracket = no champion in double elimination.

It's the attitude of everyone involved that determines how well the tournament will be. If you doubt it then you aren't helping. People either quit or argue and that's what tends to end tournaments...

My tournament never finished because of those reasons. I even kept posting the thread asking for match results, updating the bracket, and allowed the second round to begin like people ASKED.

A. I really don't care about the referees. I won't be using them anyway
B. The game lags anyway, and from personal experience, items don't add that much lag.
C. I don't say no items matches are no fun. I still enjoy them. Its just that I enjoy item matches more. most of the ZU tournaments had competitive rules. And that gets boring. And o no it adds random elements, who cares? Its not like you earn anything from winning here, and its not like you can prove your better then someone.(lag can screw up some characters, or make them beter)

I love the faith people have in us.

With fun tournament I actually meant, you know, the current rules.

Yeah, but if they don't get there match done in the set time and someone can't come then they're disqualified. Simple as that.
