Gold Link

I've always wondered. What is the purpose of the golden version of Link in SSBB? As far as I know, this costume color hasn't been shown in any of the canon games has it?

Fanservice would be adding something the fans wanted. How can fans ask for something that didn't even exist at the time. It would have to be a big coincidence if alot of people at the same time thought of a golden version of Link.

My thoughts:
1. They added him for the heck of it. (most likely)
2. It has something to do with the future Wii game. (unlikely)

Fans went "omfgthat'ssocoolhe'slikegolden" when they saw this new costume.

Considering this, as well as there being no other reasonable explanation, I go with fanservice.

Eye candy.

I mean there are other characters whose colors aren't explained as well. In fact, some have none that make sense at all. XD

The best example I know of this is of course, Ike. Still, he could have had colors that made sense, like um, his PoR Lord outfit colors? >_>

Who gives a crap when you can play as Domon ****ing Kasshu?

Why is there a black Pit? (okay that came out wrong) He was never black in any of his game(s?)

Just more colors because more colors = more choices and more choices = XD

In Oot, I think you are able to hack it or something to give link gold tunic and I guess people liked so much that Nintendo put it in. And personally, I prefer gold Link over the other colours,even green. Her's good video displying that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX-UAZmpdUY

But maybe nintendo put that custom color because we can asociate that custom with link wearing the magic armor.

A gold tunic was originally in OoT, so was a white, light blue, light green and a black one I think. But according to the hacks, the gold and white ones were gonna be apart of some other temple, but they were axed. Black would probably have been with the Shadow, as for light blue and green... :/
