Part of my reasoning is that sometimes the controls are 'out of reach' (I play on the GCN controller. Shield and C stick feel out of reach.) or because I cannot react fast enough to execute things. SSBB is a fast metagame.

However being that it's fun on one player, I play it for my own entertainment.

Or it could also be because I haven't played a Smash game in years. But whatever.

It has less to do with being hardcore and more to do with harboring a little common sense. If someone doesn't want to get hit, they either move out of the way (roll or dodge) or simply block the attack (shield).

I'd rather dodge because I'm more used to uh, running and jumping at least.

And in the end I'll still get hit and fail miserably, dodging/shield or not.

Edit: Cry me a river.

My statement was catering towards common sense, not preferences, and not towards you specifically.

Shielding works, plain and simple. It has been repeatedly proven.

Besides, simply jamming the trigger button will sometimes earn you a perfect shield, pretty much giving you a free attack.

Oh, and a little late of me to say, and it's beside the point of shielding, but the Brawl metagame (or gameplay, for that matter) isn't exactly what you'd call fast.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Then I guess I'm just really slow minded. I've watched videos before, and everything looked fast.

I can see why shielding would work. But would it work for me, even if I make it into a habit of using the shield? No I don't think it would.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Yes, it has gotten very boring. Why? Because they had to change the game so much from Melee that it became slower, shallower, and more casual. There aren't any advanced techniques to learn, and barely any skills to refine. I never got bored from Melee after 6 years and I got bored of Brawl after a few months.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Metagame doesn't mean what you guys think it means, by the way.

Metagame refers to discovery and exploitation of how the game was manufactured. Brawl's metagame IS slow, and Melee's was fast (this is where people get confused, because Brawl's physics are slow, and Melee's fast).

Fine fine, Brawl is slow.

But I am slower than Brawl.

This is completely untrue. Sounds more like you played the game for a month rather than getting bored with it after one.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Subspace was just something to unlock all the characters for me. The game started once I beat it and got all the characters.

Buzz and I have a lot of really good players we play with, online and in person. Most are tourney goers, so the level of experience is fun to play with. We also play with a bunch of friends. We never get tired of playing Brawl.

Yah no. They are still finding new techniques with Brawl. Granted, not as much as Melee its true, but to say there aren't any is false.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Just to let you guys know, I MYSELF DISCOVERED ONE OF BRAWL'S ADVANCED TECHNIQUES. YES, I DID. The Reverse Boost Grab/Reverse Pivot Grab. In other words, I don't believe that there are zero techniques to learn. It's just that Melee has a hundred times more techniques, which are harder to pull off and more rewarding, plus they make its competitive metagame way more fun.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Hey genius, did you forget that Melee's been out for almost eight years? Brawl's been out for a little over one.

No **** Melee's going to have moe advanced techniques, the Metagame for Brawl has barely been tapped. Come eight years it'll have just as many if not (most likely, actually) more.

...That's mostly because glitches these days are what makes a Smash metagame. >_>

The problem with Brawl is that it keeps being compared to the rainbow-shining Melee.

If it ever has as many, or more advanced techniques than Melee, for sure they won't be as useful. I mean, wavedashing was discovered a few months after Melee came out. It's been a year now, and the only advanced techniques we got for Brawl are the very minor ones which people barely use.

Re: SSBB Boring after Subspace Emissary

Yeah, like you know how every single person in the competitive field plays...

There's nothing as game-breaking as Wavedashes in Brawl, that's why there's hasn't been massive use of one specific technique. It's a lot of little stuff that often relates to a couple of characters. That's good for a fighter.
