Official SSBB Tier List

I still can't believe that the tier list is even debatable. Accept that its there, ignore it if you don't care or apply it if you do.

Really, I can't believe how many people here know absolutely jack-all about the tier list, but think they have any say in how it works.

Seriously, posting the tier list on a forum like ZU was a mistake.

The IC forum put Toon Link as an even matchup.
The Diddy Kong forum say it's a 60:40 advantrage for DK
The Donkey Kong boards haven't said anything.
The Wario boards say they have a 60:40 advantage over Toon Link.
The Kirby boards say it's a 60:40 advantage for Kirby.

Until both boards agree, there's no official matchup for those characters.

I think Metaknight being at the top is out of place. He's fast but has no good knockback attacks and is limited in ranged attacks.

What I find funny, is they try to tell the ones who have actually lived from experience that their wrong.

Captain Falcon should obviously be ultra-tier. What a bunch of crap!

Bias tends to get in the way. Ice Climbers and Diddy Kong might be debatable, but the rest are not better. Also, where's Lucario?

They are wrong. Of course, this is merely the first of many tier lists. Human error is to be expected.

I guess all those tournament wins with Meta Knight were imagined. The fact is that Meta Knight's speed is enough to maintain an advantage over stronger opponents. He also can edge-guard like no other.

@Dark Link - the List is not "wrong"; it's just based off current results.

Tournament results truly justify only the top tier characters, e.g. MK and Snake. The other characters within the tier, especially towards the middle, are based more towards popularity.

Who said I wasn't a competitive Brawler? I wouldn't be as good as I am now if I wasn't interested in competitive play.

Let's not play the semantics game. If you don't travel to real competitions with competent players, you're not the "competitive smasher" I'm referring to.

Dark Link, I'm pretty sure Buzz is referring to competition with an entry fee and a prize pot; if you're saying you go to competitions, based on your arguments, I figure you're going to Nintendo tourneys, or scrub local tourneys, or otherwise are new enough to the real competitive scene that you still haven't got a handle of how things go. I will make no assumptions about online tournaments, however (they're a joke, for the most part).

Let's see if you're at least aware of the competitive scene Buzz and I are referring to. Do the names Ken, Azen, M2K or ChuDat (among others) mean anything to you? If not, I highly doubt you play the same competitive Brawl as we do. (Or, like earlier mentioned, you're just so new to the scene that you don't know the names yet.)

Whatever the case is, you're wrong about the tier list. Meta Knight definitely has earned his place at the top of the current tier list, regardless of what anybody wants. Personally, I'd love Ice Climbers to be top tier; I'm sure someone like Sugarpoultry would like Wolf to be top tier. But the fact is, they're not, because they haven't earned that. Perhaps later on when the metagame evolves and other characters start winning tournaments and having better matchups, Meta Knight will lose his top spot.

But I'm wrong, and Buzz is wrong, and other people with years of experience are wrong, because we can't possibly know better than people who don't have that experience, can we?

I will commend you on this, though: your arguments haven't been completely retarded like many others in this thread (not to mention names).

It's a shame, here in Melbourne, there are no tourneys. I havn't even heard of any in Australia... Ah well.

After watching a few Meta Knight games from SWF, I have indeed seen the light. Some very nice kills using his uspecial and sky diving to fair.

I still don't understand why people take the tiers so personally. It's just a ranking based on characters most likely to win in tourneys. Theres no need to feel offended if you play Jiggly and found that shes on the bottom, or if you think Sonic should be moved higher.
It doesn't affect anyones game at all, nor should it. If you are only here to complain about the list, then your arguments are invalid.

Again, I am not a tourney player because I do not have the oppurtunity, but I understand how the Tier's are put together.

Well cept for Toon Link I expected him to be a bit higher.

Actually the tierlist is pretty close to what I expected. The only thing that confuses me is Wario being that far up. But that's probably because I play Zelda often and she can abuse his properties. (Grab + release+ lightning kick ftw)

Hey now, Melbourne's like the Smash Capital of Australia! Here's a good place to start; there's actually a tourney coming up on the 21st, but that thread has all the info you'll need to start out with tourneys in Melbourne. Funnily enough, it's on the same day as Sydney's next tourney, but you Melbourners have it way easier than us, with a much larger scene, more tourneys and meets, and so on...

Actually, you'd also do well to frequently check out the Australia Regional Boards, too. It's quite a useful resource for the goings-on of Smash in Australia, even if you don't intend to travel out-of-state for a while. Haha, hopefully I'm not overloading you with info here, but us Aussies have a pretty decent Smash scene, even if it's nothing compared to the US scene. xD
