DF Classic-Round One

This round will last one week. Now remember to vote for the one you think shows the most skill and style, not just the one you think is cool because it has your favorite color. Please state WHY YOU VOTED THE WAY YOU DID in your post.

Please only post if you are voting, not if you are thinking about voting a certain way or want people to vote a certain way.

The names of the makers of these banners have been hidden to avoid biased voting/favoritism.

With all that said, here it is:

Banner A:


Banner B:


Voting will last one week for these two contestants. Then, the votes will be totaled and the winner will go on to the next round!

But i vote Banner B.
It's very well done and vivacious, and very stylistic
A is good, but a little dull and the banner is burnt around the edges

Banner A:
-Simple, yet effective design.
-Great composition except the poor cutting of the 'Golden Sun' logo detracts from it.
-Use of a single colour was a good idea, but the red isn't very easy on the eyes.

Banner B:
-Nice detailed texturing, but it draws the focus away from the characters and logo.
-Good composition, although its a little too busy.
-Great use of colours.

My Vote: Banner B
Although i believe A had better composition (placement of objects), B made great use colours and textures which really made it stand out in the end.

EDIT: Zelda Fr3ak (post below), the cutting on Banner A didnt greatly influence my vote anyway, but the logo could have been cutout cleaner to give a more professional look - its full of jagged edges currently.

I Choose Banner A becuase it was all 1 color, secondly becuase the characters were scattered around in the sig, and it looked better. Also it uses the real Golden Sun Text.

btw Brahman, on Banner A's text around the edges of the S and N of "Sun" its like that in the text.

the letters were 3-d and i guess he/she didnt bother to crop it, becuase thats how the text looked. but the person took out the windmill thing and the "Lost Age"

so dont vote for the other sig just because that may look bad. Have some other reasons

Banner B, Its more professionally done. The background and colors fit perfect with the Golden Sun theme.
The images are nicely placed and blend in with the background.

Banner A, Looks way to plain and the logo is cheaply ripped. I have a pretty good idea who made it

Banner B gets my vote

Banner A - Very simple background and less work put into the text.

Banner B - Very nice background with a great color scheme.

I vote Banner B

Banner B, it is far better implemented and Banner A in itself has some flaws which could have been easily corrected.

being mono in itself is a reason to fail a sig. no monochromatic sig deserves a single vote, ever.
As for the edge being white, that isn't really a problem except when it is rendered horribly as is the case here. you can tell that it was either wanded or just strait out ripped from a .gif. it doesn't take much skill to smooth that out, just go around it with the polygonal lasso and set the feather to .1 on the lasso.

Now, in PS, there's a thing that if you download brushes and spend a few hours every once in a while working on it, you can learn a lot. I was just messing around today, and BAM! Animation was randomly discovered.

So, in other programs, it takes a lot of skill to do a good banner, at least in comparison to PS. Therefor, I would vote A, except graphics done in PS have a higher quality for the most part. The maker of banner A would have to go exceedingly crazy in order to match the quality of banner B. It was better than most things I can do in PhotoShop, by the way. Kudos.

Now, on the subject of making this a poll:

People can make multiple accounts. If they did so, then we would have to account for some heavy cheating. They would go in, vote in the poll, make a new account, vote in the poll, and do this over and over for the win. OR, if they do it by posts, the illustrators and artists behind the sigs can get feedback and suggestions. I prefer the former, and so did a lot of other people.

Wish i could get PS. Dont tell me I can, or get a free trial.. cuz i cant.

try using PS7, it works on win 9x.

PS7 is a pretty hard thing to get "online" the lastest CS2 is easy as pie to "get"

worst case scenario you can just go and buy a windows disc and key off a friend who doesn't need it anymore, I got XP pro for 20$ from someone who was building a media center.

sorry to go off subject, just to put it back on, trust me, PSP can do a lot more than what was given, back in the day I used it, I think I can recal V99 saying it was suicidal to run a shop while using PSP, he was and still is right, PSP has no 3rd party support.

Can we move this along now? I think we know who has won this round

Unfortunatly as that seems, no. We must wait exactly one week. Sorry, but it's the rules. This can be locked on sunday, though.
