I heard something about Poland on the radio.
I heard about something on the radio yesterday on the Rick and Bubba Show. They said that Obama removed the missles from Poland because russia was complaining about them. He removed missiles from a country that has been invaded in the past, that requested the missiles themselves, because a country that just recently invaded columbia complained about them.
Now this was yesterday, so my information may not be exact, but that's what I remember. I'll try to find a link. Here we go: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=abY5sSXoN_wo Personally, I think it's a bad idea. Poland is one of the few nations out there that likes us, and we're taking away stuff they asked for?

Re: I heard something about Poland on the radio.
First off, Russia invaded Georgia, not Colombia.
Secondly, the missile defense system that was going to be put in place in Poland and the Czech Republic is now going to be somewhere closer to the Middle East to intercept short-and medium-range missiles from Iran. However, Poland and the Czech Republic will still see a deployment of Patriot Missiles.

Re: I heard something about Poland on the radio.
apparently it's not cool to spend billions of dollars to help keep world order anymore.
So we are merely giving the popular opinion what it wants. You're welcome, World.

Re: I heard something about Poland on the radio.
An Eastern European missile platform has been a point of tension between the Russians and the United States for decades, and doing away with this is one of the best calls of Barack Obama's foreign policy so far.
That would make sense.

Re: I heard something about Poland on the radio.
Here's what's happening-
The reason we wanted a missle defense system in Poland is because it would be a strategic location to intercept threats from Iran. Poland liked having the US around to help protect them from fear of another Russian invasion. I think this is ultimately the right choice, though because when we did that, Russia immediately lowered its ordering missiles and other weapons. In the mean time, we can save money and be more realistic in reacting to the actual threat rather than a perceived hypothetical future threat. Here is a 4 minute piece from NPR. It's a little meaty, but very informative. http://www.npr.org/templates/player/...49&m=112953567

As for everything else in this thread I really don't know it well enough to comment on it. But I do know that Russia hates the idea of a missile shield. And I don't blame them (though I still want it). They fear that we (or any European country(s)) could invade and/or nuke them and they're retaliation (in the form of ICBMs) would be useless. It's like the cold war (kinda) but the world's economy is in **** too much for a massive arms build up. (minus Venezuela and their mass of oil money and same with Iran).

Re: I heard something about Poland on the radio.
The Soviet Union, following a non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany, invaded Poland about two weeks after Nazi Germany did during World War II.

Obama has no rights invading countries that he has no authority in, though, unless the missiles were American made weapons, his actions might have consequences.
