do you guys think that anything will happen in 2012? i dont think anything will. what ever happened to Y2K? that never happened

Y2k at least had some cause for concern, 2012 is just plain dumb.

In 2013 I'll laugh at all the people who believed in this.

Something funny I noticed about 10 minutes ago. I was playing Assasin's Creed and got to the end and saw something funny.

Assasin's Creed is an apocalypse game. They mention something about a satalite crashing into Earth on December 21st. At the end of the game when you can read the bloodmarks with eagle vision thing, you look next to your bed, and you see "13.0.0.0.0" which in long count is December 21st 2012.

I doubt the apocalypse will happen on that date; I was just sayin' something that I just noticed.

ANyways, I really don't think anything special will happen, except maybe a big blue thing will shine in the sky for centuries. That's about it.

Baudrillaire said something interesting about the (post?)modern age, that I've seen prove pretty true in recent years: ours is an era in which disasters are either predictable and therefore not going to happen, or come out of the blue and completely overwhelming. Look at hurricanes in New Orleans. Katrina, Rita and Wilma beat the **** out of the city like a pile of *****es on a ***** boat, and no one really saw them coming, but last year, when the entire media establishment was awaiting New Orleans' destruction from Gustav with bated breath, it knocked down a few trees. Or look at terrorism: nobody saw the attacks in 2001 coming until they'd already happened, and we've been ridiculously fanatic about hating terrorists for eight years, but despite constant warnings about the threat of brown people with funny names blowing us up, the U.S. has caused most of its own problems since. I'm sure someone with more up to date knowledge of recent events or events in other countries could add further examples. But if we extend this pattern, using 2000 as a similar time when disaster failed to appear, 2012 isn't going to mean jack ****.

I'm not sure I believe this. Part of me thinks it's all a bunch of bull****, but I'm partially worried that I'm wrong. Only one way to find out...

I know we've got several 2012 threads already. The current most active one is in the GCC, but has a rather higher level of discussion than this one, so I recommend everyone post there instead.
