9/11- (Future) Holiday?

Should 9/11 be a holiday? (American, of course, not global)

I could see it being a Day of Remembrance the way December 7th is. However, I don't see it becoming a Federal Holiday where people are let off of work/school.

Not ALL holidays have people off work/school.

And, perhaps I've hit a brainfart here, but what happened on December 7th, xxxx?

December 7th, 1941 was the date of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I'm not usually good with dates either, sorry for not specifying. >.>

And I know that's not the entire point of holidays, but generally that's what happens on Federal Holidays. I think it's technically already observed as Patriot Day.

September 11? The day the CIA backed a coup of the democratically elected president of Chile, replacing him with a dictator who ruled for the next decade?

Uh...no. Though your wit and obviously intentional misinterpretation of the importance of a certain event on the date is somewhat appreciated, if a little irresponsible.

It's already pretty much a holiday.

I love holidays.

Why not?

From now on, society of America can't pass 9/11 without remembering that tragedy. The only thing keeping it from being an official holiday is just that, the officiality.

I don't think I'll ever have to see it written on a calendar to remember the date, but it sure couldn't hurt.

A Day of Remembrance, I can see 9/11 being, but a holiday? Too morbid.

9/11 constantly passes with absolutely no acknowledgment from me.

It seems arbitrary for people to get upset about over it so many years after the fact, when in the grand scheme of things, not too many people died compared to other disasters.

We never acknowledge any other days where a significant number of people died. Let it go.

I don't know about you, but to me 9/11 is nothing compared to December 7th. One building>a whole city? Not saying it isn't a tragedy, but it's not really worth putting on a calender. People are going to remember it anyway. And only 8 years later? It's like, "Oh noes! Put it on the calender, hurry up! People are going to forget!" Maybe in 2035, but not in 2009.

It is a holiday. Not a federal one, but it is. It's called Patriot Day.

It was the catalyst for a whole new age in America. It was a huge deal.

I would wager you ignore it because you connect it with the propaganda it inspired and the actions that propaganda made possible, which you likely disagree with.

What year was that anyway? I vaguely remember that, but I can't remember the exact details. Early 80s, right?
