Re: 9/11- (Future) Holiday?

Same as flag at half mast, moments of silence are a symbol of mourning.

Only like 2000 people died on 9/11. The war killed far far more.

It's not about casualties, it's about historical significance.

I think what the US needs is a good morbid holiday.

At least then we would be being honest with ourselves.

Then again, I'm probably one of the few US citizens that shares this sentiment.

More people die in the south side of Chicago than in the 9/11 attacks, but I guess since it was xeno-terrorism it should get a special holiday. I wouldn't argue with work off, but pearl harbor doesn't get a day off--so I don't think it will happen.

I must say I do concur. How much longer can the media milk it? It's a sad day, but do we need to pretend like everyone is upset just as they were the day it happened? I must also add, I'd hate to be a person who had a loved one perish in that tragedy; being reminded by the media and everybody else would be absolutely un-****ing-necessary. I would want to forget about it.

Too much focus is put on 9/11. With many conflicting theories about it, and the true lack of importance of it besides it starting a massive genocide in the Middle East carried out by Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and the US combined. Such events don't need holidays to be honest.

The world looked upon America in that time, and what did they see? They saw the walls of the great fortress blown asunder. Something no one thought could happen.
This event was very significant.

But, it's not mourning in the fact that we're all mopey and crying all day. Why would it be so bad to take a minute out of our lives to remember or mourn the deaths of 3000 fellow Americans?

And which war are you talking about? World War II? Or the War on Terror? Because if you're speaking of the latter, then 9/11 was the direct cause of that, like Pearl Harbor was for our jumping into World War II. Like it's been said before, it's not just the fact that 3000 people died, but what that inevitably caused is what's really important.
