The Annexation of Mexico

Many conspiracy theories that used to be around revolved around the annexation of Canada and Mexico by the U.S. with Obama in power. Such rumors were proven to be false and most people forgot about them.

However, lately I have been hearing some discussion about the possibility of the U.S. annexing Mexico. Does anyone consider this to be a good thing? There are some benefits and costs, like-

Benefits:
-Improving Mexico's sanitation, wealth would be easier
-Border patrol would not have to exist
Costs:
-Difficulty in translating many things from Spanish to English and vice versa
-May hinder the weak U.S. government

-but what is your stance? Yes or no?

I believe it could have some benefits to both sides, however, I don't possibly see it happening (I'm Mexican btw)
On the economic side, Oil from mexico would be treated in a much more efficient manner (don't get me started in this, a whole new thread would be needed to be able to make a full point), and as mentioned, no border patrol would have to exist.
However, there's a lot of poverty in Mexico, and many problems regarding education, tax evasion, water and others, that CAN be fixed, but it would be a heavy blow to the U.S at first to deal with it.
Also, there's a huge drug-traffic problem, and yes, being part of the U.S would provide better security and perhaps get rid of it... but how much can be done without totally destroying the economy.
Even more, I believe the average Mexican has an anti-american feeling, so I'd put my money on civil war soon after.

My stance is.. Sure, why not. Do I believe it is feasible? No.

I think a much better option would be to create an American Union like the European Union.

I brought this up a while back, and while I wouldn't mind it, the Mexicans probably would. Unless the Mexican people are in favor of it, then it's probably not going to happen. Plus, we really don't need to give people who accuse us of imperialism something to point at.

I'd say that this would have similar problems to anexation. If you look at the EU most of the member nations have similar populations, similar economies, and similar military strengths. If a NAU was created the fact that America holds a huge advantage over the other nations in these fields may mean that the NAU would be dominated by the US, something that the other countries would not be happy with.

Any annexation of Mexico would be a whole lotta trouble for a disproportionate amount of payoff.

why would we want to? This is a really stupid idea(not to offend any mexicans that are on this forum).

Is this a willing annexation on the Mexican's part. If not than there is noway in hell this is a goood idea. We don't need another war.
If it's willing that's another story. Mexico has many probleems so it obably isn't worth it either way.

There will never be an Annexation of Mexico. Their water gives all of our politicians diarrhea and besides that it's just an idea that would result in a large majority unrest in the U.S. and Mexico, which of course would be fairly counter-intuitive to the Constitutions of either nation.

I don't really think annexing Mexico is in America's best interest. Mexico's? almost definetely, corruption in their police force is rather rampant iirc and there is a ****ton of drug cartel violence going on along the borders. I wouldn't be surprised if fixing the law enforcement systems to American standards, not to mention education would cost a helluva a lot more than maintaining border patrol does.


(Also i really really really don't want to have to learn Spanish, which a higher influx of immigration from Mexico would likely force me to do where I live)

If we were to annex mexico, it would bring little benifit to the US. In the mean time, weeding out the drug lords, corruption, cleaning up the water, etc would cost the US a huge amount of money and would probably take at least 50 years to do. In short, I really don't think its a good idea.

Not a good idea in my opinion...The amount of unrest generated from generally anti american mexicans and anti mexican americans would be unbelievable.

NEVAH!! I don't want Mexico part of my county unless we did it back during the Mexican-American War. To be honest Mexico is a cesspool we would have to stop drug dealers, fix/build roads, make sanitation, nope nope, more a of a headache thens its worth, I would rather take Canada over Mexico, not that I would want either.
