yeah it's true that most guys are stronger than girls, but there are girls who are naturally very strong or are very fit...those can kick your *ss too.

As has been stated, most "sexual abuses" aren't violent at all. In many cases it's just a girl's boyfriend going too far and not listening when she says no, or the girl getting too much alcohol and isn't conscious enought to really know what's going on, and some guys are really good at taking advantage of that, obviously.

And this is what supposedly justifies a "man tax" because we're all potential rapists

As for the gender strength contest, it's true that on average men are stronger than women, but whether you get punched in the face with brass knuckles or a spiked gauntlet, it's going to hurt.

I also suspect that the statistics regarding sexual abuse aren't entirely to be trusted. I don't doubt that man-on-woman rape and such is more common, but I do think that there's a lot that's not reported, for all types of abuse crimes.

I would really, really like to know how these guys doing stats are defining "sexual abuse" and the like. As others have said, if ass-slapping and et cetera are included in this count, then the number's not so surprising (in fact, I'd think it would be a bit higher, depending on their leniency with these terms). But if they're talking strictly rape and molestation, then that's unimaginably frightening.

Well it really depends on how the fight goes... nails in eyes or anywhere near the facial region hurt a lot. You never know... sometimes.

I know both my mother and my best friend and my sister were both sexually abused as children, and those are only the people close to me that told me. To me, three is a lot of people close to you that have been sexually abused, so I believe that statistic.

And to be specific:

My mother was molested by her sister's fiancée.
My friend was molested by a neighbor boy.
My sister was touched as a baby.

I wouldn't be suprised if the number was 38%. But it still seems a bit high.

Out of the people I know, one of my friends has been abused, and the man has been sent to jail. I've personally only been touched the wrong way, and that's been taken care of, too.

38%, like others have said, may include sexual harassment. Or they might be estimating because of all the unreported cases. I was sexually abused when I was four, and I told my parents and measures were taken to prevent its continuation, but nobody told the police or anything. My family and his worked it out pretty well without the authorities.

As others said, the term 'sexual abuse' is a broad term. It could even be name-calling based on gender, which I think a lot of women have probably experienced, meaning the figures are not as surprising as you would first think.

It is practically impossible to get accurate figures on crimes of this nature, just because they are very personal and the victim can often feel ashamed and not tell anyone.

Newspaper statistics = worthless!!!

That sister one...umm...I don't mean to be insensitive, I just don't exactly get what you mean. Toddler? Baby as in really really young? ^^ I'm a bit clueless currently.

As a guy, I think I can relate to this more from the "molester's" point of view, than the women's. Depending on the definition of "sexual abuse", that could be a reasonable statistic --- but, as was asked in the beginning of the thread, where exactly did the research come from? It would be interesting to see how large their sample space was, etc. etc.

I know plenty of girls that could beat me up if they wanted to. I also know plenty of girls i'm stronger than. On average yes women are weaker than men but that doesn't mean they can't be strong.

I think the whole 'women can't overpower men, even if they gang up on him' argument has been pretty thoroughly thrashed. So, getting back to the topic, it seems to me that 38% is ridiculously high. Is it counting attempted abuse too? I know a girl who was NEARLY gang-raped at a swimming pool on a school tour to Paris, but fortunately one of her girlfriends was nearby and saved her. Aside from that, I don't know ANYONE my age who has come close. Maybe the 38% are largely in the 'over 40' age bracket? Sexual abuse went undetected a lot more in the old days.

As Misa pointed out, that statistic could even include any comments made of a sexual nature, and as we all should know far too well, it's impossible for any statistic on sexual offences to be fully accurate due to the private nature and difficulty of proving the matter.

What is also interesting in the statistics is that 40% of those classified as "raped" willingly had sex with the offender again and 25% defined it as rape.

Remember that sexual abuse doesn't have to be consistent, nor does it have to be from a pedophile. I have definitely been sexually harassed quite a number of times in my life, and harassment qualifies as abuse. Just don't make the mistake of assuming that almost 40% of girls are sexually molested or something before age 18.

Where does that come from? It's no wonder actual rape victims end up still receiving the blunt end of misogynistic hatred - non-victims who claim they're raped when they're not make them look bad. This is why this culture that makes a woman feel dirty for enjoying sex frequently with different partners is bad, since women would rather claim they were raped than be seen as a "slut", with innocent men and genuine rape victims suffering as a result.
