Re: Are you scared to die?

The concept more creeps me out than scares me. I fear the process of dying, not the state of death, as has been said before.

Who wants to live in a perfect world forever? Seems like it'd get kinda boring eventually.

Re: Are you scared to die?

No, not really. It'll be my escape from this living nightmare. To goto a peaceful place for the rest of eternity. (For those who don't know, I'm talking about heaven. For I'm a Christian. )

On one hand, if there really is no supreme being watching us up in the sky with his physics-bending, all-seeing eye watching over us constantly, then what happens when we die? Do we close our eyes and then...that's it? Infinite darkness forever? Are we reborn as someone else? On the other hand, if there is a supreme being, then how do I know I will go to heaven, or Nirvana, or whatever? I've led a good life so far, I think, but if I were to die tomorrow, would I be forgiven for not believing? And if not, then I'm going to Hell. HELL! An eternity of suffering and pain. It will NEVER stop. And it scares the **** out of me.

Kind of feels good to get that off my chest. Sorry for the rant. I'd understand a dl;tr.
...I fully understand what you mean...I've always wondered what would happen if a perfect Catholic died merely to find that his religion was totally different from the truth. Or, perhaps, if you've been true to your religion, then you shall be rewarded regardless of the actual holy spirits or whatever. It's all VERY scary, I know. (personally, I believe in the whole "reincarnation" theory) I just plan on living my life to the fullest rather than dwell on death. If you dwell on something so depressing, than you may as well be dead already.

I hate to admit it... but I am afraid of dying. Being nonexistent for the rest of eternity, quite frankly scares me. And I'm no president, no emperor. I will never leave my mark on society, and I will be forgotten. That is my greatest and only fear.

Re: Are you scared to die?

I believe in the afterlife, but I have a hazy concept of it. I can safely say that I don't fear death, but it would be such a shame that I would die at such a young age and at a time when I'm feeling my life is finally developing into something really nice. That's what I fear. I fear the anger and a possible pain that would trigger my death at a random, unexpected time. I would also hate my family to suffer from grief.

I just like life so much and cherish even the worst of imperfections. The clear side of the concept of the afterlife I do have, though, is that it is my true home, and that it had been waiting for me since I was born. Also, we're all going to die anyway.

But why would that be terrifying? You will experience nothing. That's not "still conscious but with no senses", but "what life was like for you when your mother was three."

You've experienced it before, and seem to have come through just fine.

No, I'm not afraid of, death either- I'm afriad of how I die.
This guy has such a point: how you die is what should scare you.

Re: Are you scared to die?

I'm not at all afraid to die. I certainly don't want it to be a painful process, but I don't think I'll be lucky enough to die in my sleep. I just don't want to suffer for an extended period of time. But actually dying? Nothing to be afraid of in my opinion. No stress, no suffering, no good or bad...

I am religious, but I have no idea where I'll end up. All I can do is try my best to earn going to Heaven. I just hope I don't die before I've earned it, heh.

Re: Are you scared to die?

I'm not afraid of death, because I feel that once you die you wont feel that your dead but instead you feel like the way you felt when you were born.
Though I am afraid of the way I will die, will it be painful or peaceful (like dying in your sleep). I am also afraid of what will happen to me in the afterlife.

Re: Are you scared to die?

I'm afraid of death because I want to live. I still want to do so many things in life! Luckely, I probably have at least 60-65 years left, so that's a while to run out of steam...

But what if I could get immortality! I could see humanity develop itself, experience geology change, see the mysteries of the universe get unraveled to mankind...
If only that would be possible... well, maybe science will get us there someday... thumbs up!

I always thought that immortality would be a little sad after a while... seeing everyone important to you die as you live on, it would also be boring and lonely.

The answer is simple: yes. Everyone is afraid of dying.

No matter what people in this thread say, it all means nothing till they have a loaded gun in their face.

It's not the idea of the experience of death being terrifying, as, most likely, there isn't an experience to be had during death, but knowing that you'll cease to exist; knowing that, suddenly, without your will, you will never be able to think or comprehend again. It's simple; if you enjoy existing, you wouldn't want to be thrown in to oblivion.

Re: Are you scared to die?

Yeah, exactly. I'm not afraid of the pain that would come with dying, or dying itself so long as there was an afterlife, but oblivion, not existing, scares the **** out of me. I would do anything to avoid that, to avoid not existing. It's not like sleeping; you won't dream. And sure, you won't know it, but - just imagining laying somewhere and your vision and hearing going out and then just nothing, not sight or sound or feeling or even thought, nothing but corpse lying in a coffin under cold hard earth, totally forgotten about, not even able to think - truly what makes you you won't exist anymore, if you go by nonreligious beliefs. And that is ****ing scary.

The only thing scarier than that is Alzheimer's. That's a different kind of oblivion. As frightened as I am of dying, I'd almost rather die than become that.

(Man, I'm gonna have trouble sleeping tonight. But you're right, it feels good to get that off of one's chest.)

Re: Are you scared to die?

well, i would of used to say that i wouldnt be scared to die. but ive been thinking about it, and it really does frighten me.

i do want to live forever. i want to see how the world is in, oh say 500 years. how would we of advanced? or devanced? will the human race be at peace or will the world be ruled by wars? will some drastic event destroy something or will people figure out how to actually create new land masses? so many questions...

Re: Are you scared to die?

Death... heck yes.

I'm terrified of death, for no one knows what happens beyond that point.

Are we reborn in a different body? (reincarnation?)

Do we go to heaven/hell? (religious?)

Do we wander the earth alone for the rest of eternity? (paranormal?)

So many possibilites... yet no one knows which is correct.

Perhaps... it's what we think what would happen after death.

If you think you're going to hell... you go to hell. If you think you're going to heaven... you go to heaven.

If you think your soul is going to float around in oblivion... you float around in oblivion.

I have absolutely no idea. No one knows.

That's why I am scared, I'm scared of what might happen after death.
