16 year-old boy attacks parents over . . . Halo 3

Well, this boy named Daniel Patric murdered his mother, and shot his father, as a retaliation to them storing away his Halo 3 game because they saw it too violent for the 16 year-old..

His parents were right. It made him violent to the point he killed them!

I don't mean to sound insensitive but... Kid attacks his parents over Halo. This is old news. It seems to happen quite often now. Just a little while ago a kid commited suicide over it.

Sigh... my post obviously didn't come off very well, but it is true. This is starting to happen more and more. Parents need to start watching more carefully and maybe take options other than to take the game away. It doesn't seem to be working very well.
This is a very sad story.

Obviously, this kid wasn't fit for life if he's willing to go kill his parents for taking his Halo 3 game away. (And yes, I too, am aware it happened in 2007).

I mean, c'mon! It's a GAME! It's not like he was on heart pills and NEEDED it to stay alive and his parents were being ruthless in confiscating it.

I'm not seeing much serious discussion here, but I'll give the thread a bit to get its act together.


People just need to come up with something to actually debate about this, and to stop making spammish posts.

I couldn't believe I read what I did. He kid should be executed, unless his family doesn't want that, in which case life in prison. The kid looks like a murderer, his eyes are lifeless.

Why execute him? What good would that do?

Always a poor way to judge character, especially in a photograph.

I don't doubt that someone who could do something like this would be deeply mentally disturbed, and probably will never be safe to have outside of a jail or asylum, but I don't know that I'd judge him on his eyes.

That's f***ed up.

My mom uses my DS as a constant tool for making me do what needs to be done. I swear, she has probably had it 25% of the time I've owned it.
But I have never, NEVER considered violence to get it back. Ever.
That kid needs some serious psychiatric help to see it he's even fit to ever be let out.

It was during that time that he became fascinated with the Halo series and would play them for hours at friends' houses. His father forbade the games, saying that were too violent and sexually explicit.

Don't know where he got that information.

But yes, this kid is messed up. I'd be pissed if I had a game taken away from me, but I wouldn't bloody kill my parents over it.

This kid needs to be locked up. He's a danger to society.

I said he looks like a murderer, many pictures of murderers are similar in the fact that they have lifeless eyes. I didn't judge him, I simply said he looks like the typical murderer.

I'm one of those "the eyes say everything that needs to be said" people. Let me tell you.. Those eyes say a lot.

He reminds me of a few people I've met... who were all deeply screwed up. There's something very wrong with the kid, clearly. And his eyes say it all.

I knew my step mom was a nasty human being by her eyes.. and for a year she had everyone believe she was an angel. Lets just say.. she is now the most hated person in my family and in every court/lawyer's office I've been in this year.

The eyes are the key.

Insane people aren't really in control of their actions, so there's no telling what you'd do.

He was perfectly sane, he told them to shut their eyes, so he could execute them. He knew he was going to do it. He wanted to do it.

However, the court has ruled out the death penalty for this boy, because of his age. This is preposterous, he is old enough to know what consequences his actions will make. He is old enough to know right from wrong. He is old enough to have self control. He is old enough to know that he deserves to be punished greatly for this crime.

And I believe the death penalty to be the correct course of action to uphold the law and administer justice.

However, I'm sure it wasn't just Halo that the kid killed his parents over. He must have just been all around angry with them.

That happened a long time ago. You're not showing the full story.

This guy, a preacher, got his son Halo and a 360 for getting a good report card, or something. The dude said his son played it for twenty hours at a time, so he locked the game up with a safe that also contained a gun. The preacher said video games were unwholesome or something, and said he could never play one again. The kid played one at his friends house and got beaten by his dad. He was angry, cracked the code in the safe, took out the gun, and shot his parents.

There is no such thing as justice, only efficiency and inefficiency.

Killing a person will always result in the removal of a potentially useable resource, which is always inefficient. One of the few more socialist elements that I would agree with is some form of public work service (Although minimal.)

Sending serious criminals who pose a danger to society off to do hard labor that no one else wants to do (I mean, if these are brutal tasks that no one wants to do, it really wouldn't be restricting our freedom in terms of job or market possibilities at all) would be an efficient way to satisfy what I mentioned above, as we would reap the benefits of their labor while showing them retribution.

If only society would realize that, abandon the death penalty, and handle serious criminals in a more appropriate way.

No one is a "murderer" at heart. There is no such thing as good or evil in the real world.

Most murderers look like very personable people.

It's not hard to sort through the thousands of pictures that inevitably get taken of them to find one that makes them look bad. Most news sources have people who do that as their sole job.

Eyes, in fact, tell you absolutely nothing about a person.

Studies have been done. You get supposed experts in reading people by their eyes, put them in a room with a random person that they know nothing about (but who has been trained to resist cold reading) let them talk for however long is needed, then get the experts opinion.

They're no better than chance at telling you anything about the person.


Eyes can show you a person's mood...sometimes. However, that only works if you're very familiar with a person's face, if you've learnt the little facial "tells" that indicate mood.

Me? My eyes are half-closed almost all of the time. Most people say it makes me look incredibly laid-back and uninterested in the world around me. This is, quite simply, false.
