Re: Is Anti-Americanism Cool?
I voted yes because it's the opinion I seem to come across the most. America is usually viewed by the average guy on the street as the archetype of everything that's wrong with the world. Litigious culture? Blame America. Overly-processed, unhealthy food? Blame America. Escalating violence in various corners of the world? Blame America. Sex-, drink- and drug-crazed youth culture which is overly dependant on the popular media for their opinions? Blame America. Although the US has earned some of the blame for a lot of things, it's not the root of all evil, either. Nevertheless, this seems to be the most common opinion.
Things have changed a little since Obama's inauguration but to be fair, the ill will America has gotten in the last few years has its roots in decades of misguided policies and it's doubtful whether any one President can turn the tide of public opinion on his own. |

Re: Is Anti-Americanism Cool?
Well, if that is what you believe in. It is "cool" to stand up for what you believe in. It may be viewed as wrong or immoral by others but to you its a serious belief and you deserved to be respected for that.

Does that make you laugh? People who are excessively proud of their country make me laugh. |

I think what he's getting at is that people who hate the country they live in are pretty much screwed. It is actually a little funny if you think about it. I find a bit of humor from people who live in North America or Europe who hate the USA, simply because it's very likley that they're using an American product. That and the fact that most of them don't really have a valid point to make, and just regurgitate some old piece of propoganda that they found on the internet. I'd say that most of what is said about America is an exagerration, or just plain BS. However when someone does make a valid point, I tend to agree with them to some extent. |

Re: Is Anti-Americanism Cool?
I had to say yes but only because of no middle option.
A few reasons why: America, the nation of lard guzzling fattys. Britain might go the same way soon though. America start wars with 3rd world countrys and instead of revealing their real reasons make up something else like 'weapons of mass destruction' . Saddam Hussein needed to be gotten rid of, why not just say that? Also, America seem to see themselves as the greatest nation in the world, those weapons they apparently went to stop are the same kind America has several hundred of at least. They're entitled to them but other countries aren't? Lastly, torture. Waterboarding definitely IS torture and keeping people locked up in Gauntanamo without any real evidence for years should not be allowed. Especially when they're not even american citizens! As I understand it Obama is trying to get rid of the last point but no, anti-americanism is not gone yet. |

Not when your belief is wrong. Holding to your principles is hardly admirable when your principles are horrendously flawed.
