Anyway, I'm not debating his right to withhold funding, I'm debating his right to demand the resignation of a person not under his direct employ. He has the right to do that to a government employee, but not a private one.
Of course he doesn't have the right to fire employees of private firms. If they had refused the deal, there would've been nothing he could do about it. But they wanted the money.

Also, he shouldn't be throwing around money to GM anyway. He should instead increase tariffs on foreign cars like Toyota or Mazda. That would help all american car companies, not just GM, as well cost much less money.
Whoa, there. That track goes both ways. If Obama were to start employing protectionist policies, the message would be 'every nation for themselves' and all other world leaders would start following suit. Then not only would banks not be lending, but international commerce would grind to a halt. And then this recession would last a lot longer.

So apparently it doesn't matter if this move overall improves the economy? It only matters that the government negotiated a contract with GM that involved firing the guy in charge of them when they ended up in this mess. Apparently this is an "abuse" of power, when you use it to get the results that the taxpayers demand. Yeah that makes perfect sense.
