An angry four-year-old shot his babysitter after he accidentally stepped on the child's foot, US police have said.
Nathan Beavers, 18, and some other teenagers were babysitting youngsters in a mobile home in Jackson, Ohio, when the incident occurred.
The stroppy child is said to have gone to a bedroom and retrieved the gun before shooting Mr Beavers.
The teenager was taken to hospital and treated for minor pellet wounds to his arm and side. Another teenager was also injured in the shooting incident.
Jackson County Sheriff John Shashteen said authorities are investigating. The child has not been charged.

All I have to say is that when four-year-olds are shooting people, it might be time to rethink gun control laws, as well as whether his parents should be allowed to raise a goldfish, yet alone a child.

What in the HELL would cause a four year old to think of shooting someone for stepping on his/her foot? There must be some parenting problems going on in that trailer. How does a four year old even know what a gun does?

Gun control laws aren't the problem. It's obvious a sever lack of parenting.

If you own a gun you should have it locked in a safe under floor bored underneath your bed and swallow the key, or bury it 25 feet in the ground 5 miles from your house.

Yea, like having your kid know where the gun is. Now I don't have anything against video games. But perhaps playing FPS at 4 years old could be the blame. But then again anger issues just could have done it.

Honestly, we don't know what goes on in that household. For all we know, the kid's parents may be just the most loving couple of people in the world. (Of course you do have to question why they'd leave a gun within a four-year-old's reach.) But anyway, I think we'd have to know a lot more about the situation before we jump to the conclusion of blaming the parents.

It's a very dangerous assumption, I believe.

I'm sure you're exaggerating. I have no problem with people keeping a gun in an easily accessed place, since when someone breaks into your house you may not have time to rummage through your closet, and open ten shoeboxes to get to your gun.

Though it does need to be out of reach of a small child.

Damn, and I thought Calvin was a tough brat to babysit. Hmm, isn't it a tad strange that a four year old kid knew how to load and use a shotgun? Eh, this just reconfirms my belief that small children should not be allowed access to guns, ever. The kid needs some serious anger management training, as well as having the parents being looked into for allowing this kind of situation to happen.

1.) Massive fail on the parents part not to lock up the gun and ammo in a safe.

2.) What the ever loving **** is going on in that household where a 4 year old's first reaction to being angry is to go get a gun and shoot somebody? I didn't even know how to tie my own shoelaces at that age, let alone think it was remotely acceptable to hurt somebody for an accident. o.0

At that point, I'd be sending the kid to Tibet to be raised in a monestary for the rest of it's life.

Some people make it way to easy to get to though. My old neighbors father had one under is bed, like it was the only thing under his bed. Exposed and everything.

Ok, If the kid KNEW what he was doing, the family should be charged with something.

This is what I have to say with the information presented now.

Parents should have had the gun lock away since they were not home, in case something like this might happen.

Parents should have taught the kid that if someone steps on your foot not to shoot the person. Either stomp on that person's foot or ask for an apology. Simple as that.

What's probably going to happen (as the most extreme scenario) is the parents will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon charges and the kid get some sort of counseling on behavior problems.

I dunno -- mobile homes aren't big: A child in one with loads of 18-year olds might feel a bit intimidated. When I was four, teenagers were these oddly elongated people with weirdly pointy hair who got drunk and smashed things: Sometimes each other.

Then again, there's a reason why these guns are hard to cock. Either someone's been messing with the (air?) rifle, or that's one hell of a child.

I think the laws don't only need changing but the parents should be able to have some sense to be able to hide guns if they own one in a high place so a 4 year old can not reach it.

These particular parents should be re-taught parental lessons.

Either the kid had a shotgun (which I doubt), or he was simply playing around with a pellet/air gun -- the latter is mostly likely.

Despite the fact that the child didn't have a real gun in his possession, his parents should be weary of where they keep their toys. The child has seems to have some anger issues, which reflects the child's parents. Something that should be treated.

I don't know why this was newsworthy, as a pellet gun doesn't actually hurt that much. I've been shot point blank by one. It'll leave a good welt on you, but nothing permanent.

How come this kid knows where the gun was kept, let alone the fact that it even exists?

Really, though, who just leaves a gun lying around for a kid to get a hold of? That is the parents' fault.

Perhaps I was just one of those genius four year olds, but I'm pretty sure most kids that gae definitely know what a gun is and does. The moral implications and the fact that they kill people isn't something picked up for another couple of years. At that time it's just "bang zap baddies yaaayyyy".

Assuming this child is not mentally deranged in some way, how else can you describe such eratic behavior as shooting someone for stepping on his foot?

Just the very fact that the parents left a gun where it could easily be accessed by a four year old [hell, even the 18 year old doesn't need to be accessing a gun in a trailer] is a clear sign of bad parenting, but the fact that the kid willingly and knowingly shot someone for a very, very minor offense...isn't a clear sign that his parents aren't quite up to standard with child-raising methods?
