Queen Liliuokalani, and illegal U.S. annexation of Hawaii!!!!

Did you guys know that Hawaii used to be a constitutional monarchy, until U.S. buissness-men and others illegally overthrew the Queen, simply for the profit, desire for millitary strength, and the (misguided) belief in "cultural superiority", and they did NOT want a new constitution, which would give more power and freedom to Hawaii's native residents?!?! Although the Clinton administration has apologized, little or nothing has been done to free the islands, and return power to the monarchy, and/or to the People of Hawaii!!!! Any thoughts, guys?!?!

They're better with out the monarchy, I'm glad we overthrew it. How we did it, was, ofcourse horrible and immoral, though. If the Hawaiians want to leave the country they should be allowed to.

But hell, why not just cut all ties off from Hawaii. I could careless if that happened. Its just another group of islands to me.

BFD Really it was a long time ago, and the people of Hawaii are living very good lives right now. It's not like thy're our slaves or anything, they're just politically considered part of the U.S. Whoopty freakin do. Besides if we did give them their country back it wouldn't last very long. They'd still be heavilydependent on the U.S. for vital resources, economic support, and military support. But if the U.S. considered them a separate Union, we wouldn't give them these thing for free any more. They'd have to pay like all other countries that get recourses from the United States. Really the only thing Hawaii's good for is tourism. I hate to sound like an ass but it's true. So, Hawaii bcoming a country would be an honor or pride thing, and I don't think the native Hawaiians care about it that much anymore. They're very laid back people.

Um, why would we return power to the monarchy? I'm not going to say that the hostile imperealistic tendencies of the late 19th centure were morally acceptable- but Hawaii is now a state, a US state, and I'm pretty sure we're not going to just let them go.

You speak of Hawaii as it's a colony. It isn't. The islands are an integral part of the United States, and what you're saying is akin to giving Alaska back to the Inuits or giving New England back to the Iriquois- a kind thought, but probably not going to happen.
