Gangsta rap; A government ploy?

I read an snippet of an interview from Alicia Keys and heres the snippet.

Quote:
Alicia Keys has claimed that the musical genre "gangsta rap" was created by the US government.

The R&B star told Blender magazine that the movement was designed to "convince black people to kill each other".

She also suggested that the deaths of hip-hop stars Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G were designed to hinder influential black politicians.

Keys said: "The murders were fuelled to stop a great black leader from existing."
Normally I don't care for these sort of things, but this really interested me, It doesn't seemed to have stopped Obama (or whatever hes called) running for president, but I guess we'll see if he wins or not. Does anyone think this could be true in anyway? I just like the idea because it would click all the pieces together (thought if Obama became president it'd be proved totally false)

So what do you guys think?

Alicia's gigantic posterior must be getting to her.

Either that or Kanye's female incarnate.

I think it's pretty much bull, almost as bad as Bush planning 9/11 conspiracies.

Conspiracy theory.

Nothing worth arguing.

...That doesn't make sense on any level whatsoever.

Re: Gangsta rap; A government ploy?

when I heard that Alicia keys had said that, my respect for her plummeted. until today, I always thought of her as an intelligent, strong-minded, talented young woman, and then hearing her talk about all these gangsta rap conspiracies made me sad. but, we weren't there, we don't know what really happened, and she IS a prominent figure in the industry, so maybe she knows something we dont... then again, she isn't much older than myself, so she would have only been a teenager when that stuff went down.

I don't think it was any sort of conspiracy, I just think it's a case of pop culture out of control and having a firm grip on a specific demographic.
hip hop isn't just a genre, it's a "lifestyle". That is, if you call living in government houseing on welfare with 4 kids and living off payday loans, spending more money on your weave and "bling" than on your children, and keeping track of 3 baby-daddies a lifestyle.

on a similar note, I just read a news story about a couple who was arrested for a domestic dispute. Guess what the fight was about?

Re: Gangsta rap; A government ploy?

Are you suggesting that those who follow the hip hop lifestyle(or whatever) are all like as you suggested? I hope not because you are making a very foolish generalization.

also what do you mean by that it fits all the pieces together? Are you suggesting what this brain-dead idiot has some merit? To me it doesnt make any sense.

What purpose does the government have to stopping black americans from becoming great leaders? The only reason is that the Government believes that only violence and hate can only come as a result of a black person being a great leader. But that is incredibly stupid. Martain Luther King was a great man and leader, he used nonviolence.

What you seem to imply is that the government wants to destroy the African American culture, prevent any african american from becoming a great leader, and purposely wants them to kill eachother.

Also whether or not Obama makes president or not does not prove or disprove this conspiracy.

I just hope I was just looking to deep into your words meaning.

Impossible. Their bigotism prevents them from even learning about politics.

I mean, look at Tara Reid.

Re: Gangsta rap; A government ploy?

Honestly, her statements, however ridiculous they are, are not so different from statements other, more common, people make. I don't think it's fair that celebrities are held up to some standard where they can only make the most intelligent and informed of statements, particularly when they're actors or musicians. These are people who make a career by pretending to be other people, or singing, playing instruments, and/or dancing. None of those things necessarily require intelligence or enlightenment, nor a great understanding of politics, society, or other aspects of the greater world. Just think of celebrities as good for certain things, i.e. their jobs, and ignore the rest.

but being in the public eye (I would hope) would make someone more wary of what they say and try to do a little research before they open their mouth... ah. that'll never happen. as you say, they ARE just people and people say and do dumb things.

Exactly. They have prejudices, ignorances, and biases just like everyone else.
