Bertie Ahern's retirement

Yes. I made a topic about it.
To make a long story short, Bertie Ahern was the Prime Minister (Taoíseach here), and he was a good one. Until about half a month ago, when he was accused of getting £10,000 or so from people in Manchester. I dont really understand whats the big deal about getting money. But, I suppose, I'm young. But surprisingly, I like politics...

I just want your opinion.

:p

I know there are Irish people here. But still...

Re: Bertie Ahern's retirement

Usually when a politician gets money for an unspecified reason, it's because he's being bribed in some way, shape, or form. Even if he just takes the money and doesn't act on it, he will still be at fault for not rejecting the money.

Re: Bertie Ahern's retirement

Bertie Ahern was a politician that the general public could really love.

But anyway, it is a bit of a joke that he was under financial difficulty when he was the minister for finance, and look at the state of our minister for health!

Only in Ireland...

Re: Bertie Ahern's retirement

While minister for finance he didn't even have a bank account!

It should be a crime letting Mary Harney into any kind of power. He was known as the Teflon Taoiseach because during all the allegations he still had a high approval rating.
I didn't approve of him but fell a certain sadness that his glory days of "smokes and daggers" are over.

I did expect this thread here....

Re: Bertie Ahern's retirement

Yeah, thanks for clearing that up, Duo.
@GarmGarf, Yeah, Burt could be loved by all, but i do anyways. Hopefully the Jaw the get into office.
@Leonri, Lol. No bank account. What an excuse. Gráinne Carooth made it worse with 'I remember putting Celia's the money, but not Bertie'
Lol. How did you know it would be here.

Edit: I just realised something. Eddie O' Sullivan and Burt both retired before they could get sacked. Just to get the money (the IRFU has to pay Eddie all of his wages until 2010)

Re: Bertie Ahern's retirement

i dont know how good he was domestically but he helped make the peace for our province in Northern Ireland and stopped the IRA - when previous Irish governments had funded it - so he is certainly a peacemaker.
