That's My oppinion anyway.
I completely agree with that.

However, why not make cannabis legal? The Government would have control over it, they would be able to tax it, they'd waste less time trying to enforce against it, and less people would be sent to prison. It works in Holland.

I can't help feel we're spiralling rapidly off-topic here...Maybe I should stop my pro-drug rants before a Mod gets unhappy

Someone agrees with Puck?*Happy Puck dance*

I don't know why they don't legalize it, perhapes they are afraid that if they legalize that it will escalate until we are like amsterdam or something? I am not sure why people want it to be legalized, cause then they'd have to pay more xD

Likely because of all the misinformation there is about cannabis proliferated through the media and throughout our nation's history. Also, because of cultural perceptions and because it would definitely be more profitable than the tobacco and alcohol industries, thus lessening their importance economically. Big Tobacco definitely doesn't want that.

You might have to pay more, but at least you wouldn't go to jail and you'd be supporting the economy and taxes.

Glad to have made you happy
What's wrong with Amsterdam? I've always been told it's awesome, cannabis bars you can just go and chill in and buy spliffs
I guess there is the whole prostitution thing...but that's a completely unrelated subject for another day.
I'm not sure if you would have to pay more for cannabis, as it wouldn't have to be smuggled in, and the Government could regulate the price to keep it steady. Plus, if they made it more expensive people would probably just stick to buying smuggled cannabis like they do now.

Re: What drugs have you tried before?

Isn't it funny to sit and think what it would be like walking into a smoke shop and ordering a pack of J's or a bag?

Customer: "I'll take an eighth ounce of the Tullman's Wacky Tabackey please"
Clerk: "But we've got buy one get one on the packs of the Petey's Purple Haze."
Customer: "no, thanks. I'll stick with my brand."
Clerk:"That'll be 42 dollars sir."

LOL!

I must admit that I'm not hugely knowledgeable when it comes to politics. My understanding is that lobbyists are groups of people from organisations that are not part of the Government, who attempt to influence MPs to make certain decisions in their favour. They do not, however, actually have any say in the passing of laws or any Parliamentary decisions.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

They don't have any OFFICIAL say, as in, the government doesn't DIRECTLY gove them a hand in making laws, but through business relationships and a gross overinflated sortof "I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine" kind of way, they do things for politicians, like give endorsements, and even plain old cash (although it's illegal and politicians have been jailed for it) in return for favorable legislation.

Yeah I can see your point now. However, it wouldn't stop people who are addicted to smoking being addicted, so tobacco sales wouldn't necessarily change. They might even increase - the majority of people aren't just gonna smoke blunts if cannabis was legal Additionally, more people smoking cannabis could lead to more people smoking tobacco; in my experience, most people who smoke a lot of cannabis also smoke tobacco.

see, tobacco companies sell a product that KILLS PEOPLE, so as their clientel die, they need to recruit new ones. so if they stopped adverising all together, sales would probably decrease. not by much, because cigarette ads are already rather scarce (in the us at least) but still- out of sight, out of mind.
Also, I don't htink people smoking weed would lead to tobacco smoking. if someone smokes weed before smoking tobacco they'd probably think "cigarettes?!?! what's the point. they don't taste nearly as good as weed, they don't get you high, and they are addictive!"

so yeah why would anyone go from weed to tobacco? i can see the other way around but... yeah.

I dunno, just a need to smoke when there's no cannabis available. Mind you, if it were legal then it probably would be available I do know people who have gone from cannabis to tobacco though.
Advertising tobacco products is actually illegal over here, and any cigarette box has to have massive writing saying things like 'Smoking causes a long and painful death' and 'Smoking makes you impotent'.
Doesn't seem to put anyone off though...

Re: What drugs have you tried before?

****, Caffiene is a DRUG? I BETTER STOP DRINKIN CAPPUCHINOS(sp?) EVERYDAY!

But yeah, nope, I never had. Probably the only thing I had that people consider a "drug" is Coffee or Cappuchino... (Which contains MORE caffiene than Coffee....so I've heard...)

And maybe second hand smoking from my parents back when they actually smoked...

coffee has caffeine in it, which is an addictive drug. and cappuccino doesn't necessarily have more caffeine in it, it juts depends on how they make it or how you make your coffee. but cappuccino is made with espresso (very highly concentrated coffee) and milk, and a shot of espreso has the caffeine of a cup of coffee i think, so really, a cappucinno and a coffee or a shot of espresso probably have similar caffein contents. although I could be wrong

also- just a fun fact-
a regular 6 ounce cup of coffee (but seriously, WHO only drinks 6 ounces?!?) has about 100mg of caffeine, whereas a cup of tea has about 60mg.
also- smokers can tolerate more caffeine in their system- it's something that the nicotine does to make the effects of coffee less severe, which is why many people who amoke also drink lots of coffee, and also plays a part in why coffee and cigarettes go together so nicely (to a smoker).
