Is it racism?

Everyone thinks racism is hating or mistreating someone due to their race but i would like to know if you think that liking someone due to their race is racism too. I know people who do like people just because they are of a certain race.

Having an innate sexual preference for a certain racial group isn't racism, but deciding "you're my friend because you're [colour] and you can't be my friend because you're [colour]" is racist.

"You're my friend because you're [colour]" is still racism, but in this case nobody yet cares because it hasn't actually hurt anyone's feelings.

Yes it is racist.

Giving anyone different treatment based on their race is racist.

We should all just forget about the race thing honestly. We are all humans. The difference in genetics between races is smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.

Agreed. But, I don't think that treatment has to neccesarily be bad. If you choose one race to date over another, that is racism. It may be a more harmless type but it is still racism. It really is true, we all are a little bit racist.

I'm white and I come from a small city in BC Canada where there arn't alot of black people. I've always thought that "Black people are cool" because the few that I've met, have a different style about them and were really friendly. So is that racism?

No, I believe everyone is equal. I'm not like one of those people on Dr. Phil House of Hate or whatever who dislikes my own race :p

I don't know why racism should even be used.

We all originate from the same country if you were to trace your ancestors done the tree. We may look different on the outside, but we all think and behave the same on the inside.

I don't know whether to think that calling one of your friends is cool because he/she is black is racist. If it doesn't hurt him/her, then surely that isn't racism?

Students from my school sometimes trash talk another school, because we regularly compete with that school in sport. Both the schools are from the same country.

If a situation like this can arise, surly situations where people from different countries or different races could arise as well. Human nature (I guess).

If you call one of your friends cool, because they are black (which is positive racism, but it is still wrong), you are being negatively racist towards all of your friends that are non-black, because they wont receive this label of being cool from you for no reason other than their race. You are indirectly saying that "non-blacks are not automatically cool", by saying that "blacks are automatically cool".

This is accually a very interesting question...
I've never thought of that being considered racism.
I see everyone's point, I mean, I've liked many different poeple of many different races, and I've never thought about it.

In theory, yes it is. "White Supremacy" is not hating black people, but liking white people more than black people.

Is racism always bad? If I were to say that on average black guys dance better than white guys, would that be racist?

I think it would, because I'm differentiating(sp? I highly doubt that's spelt right) the two.

It would only be racism if it wasn't true and if you knew it wasn't true.

Saying "Black people have darker skin than white people" is not racism because it's true.

Not really: if something is true, it can't be racist. Now, I'm NOT saying black guys dance better than white guys. XD

Well that's kind of what I'm saying. Not all black guys dance better than white guys.

But if I were to say somthing like "All Black guys are darker than white guys" I think that would be okay.

Well, even so, it isn't technicly true. I know some white guys that are blacker than some black guys.
