A man kills a baby over a video game console

For crying out loud. She didn't even break the thing. She just unplugged it. I get highly frustated with games sometimes, but punching the kid and throwing her over a chair? Sure, I might slap the kid's hands and lock her out of my game room, but no real damage was done to the console.

The guy has issues, and I agree with whoever posted that he might have done it over her scratching his car or something else trivial. I just can't comprehend that, and I'm a hard core video gamer.

When I told this to my friend over the phone he said:

"He killed her in two punches? How weak. I could've done it in one."

Despite that statement being really wrong, it still made me laugh. Hysterically.

I'm not going to further bash the man that did this. He's been hated on enough. This thread only spreads hate. This is something that shouldn't be shared with other people. It's better if only a few lay eyes on this horrid act.

Life is better when you take everything lightly. Tons of people die per day, and for all we know they could've died in a worse death than this one. Just because other people are spilling their hearts out at this and feeling sad, doesn't mean I have to do the same.

I don't take killing lightly. It's something you can't undo, and things that you can't undo should never be taken lightly.

Thats a sad story... But its retarded. I get mad at people that interupt me playing a game, but I don't punch em' in the face and kill them. Addicted to games? Yes, I believe that what he did was an accedent, I know the girl didn't know, and when she tripped over the wires, or whatever, by sheer anger, and no control, punched the 12 month year old girl.

Maybe he did punch her on purpose, maybe not. But over something like that.... Is dumb beyond belief.

Well... The events are brought to us in an "objective" manner, but heck. He says in the NBC article that he thought she was just sleeping after the incident. Obviously, he didn't hit her hard enough to mark her too visibly.

As mentioned previously, people snap. It's an unfortunate truth about human nature. We snap before the cognitive reaction sets it, and it has always been there. Bloodlust, frenzy, heck, even (especially) lust takes control, and we do things we regret.

The wife is shocked, but in a "WHY?" way, and that's probably what the husband's wondering also. Anger management for this guy...? We live in an age where we are actively taught to repress aggression, all the way down to "don't play cops and robbers." Video games are an outlet, and he was definitely "outing" when the infant interrupted him. I'm not saying it's justified, but it's more anecdotal than this specific man's problem.

All this said, it doesn't excuse what he did. My sympathy for the mother and the family, and for him as well.

It's a shame we don't live in a society that condones that kind of behaviour. If it were an eye for an eye, you're suggesting that someone punch this man twice in the face, killing him. That's a far cry from a jail sentence. Hell, I'd take the firing squad over that kind of death. Way to use logic.

I suppose he does deserve to get bludgeoned to death. But of course, if it's done in cold blood, it doesn't count, and in the end what good does it do? And this isn't a matter of reparation. His death wouldn't bring the kid back. It's just another body to add to the count.

It's absurd that a human being can be so irrational. Unfortunately, that's how some people feel about things.

As a last note of surreality, a note was apparently left on Spellman's door, saying not to judge him because he'd never hurt a child.

Clearly he would. Normally you wouldn't judge someone because of something they do once, but when it comes to losing your temper and punching a defenseless one year old in the face killing them the priviledge of being heard by someone with an open mind goes out the window.

Video games have nothing to do with this. The man is just not fit to be a parent, if he's going to punch his baby over anything insignificant.

I don't think the game would directly influence him to do it, probably just aggression and anger from sucking. It's pretty sad that would happen, as if the baby knew what she did.

What's even sadder, is the punk will probably go to court and pled out blaming the video game for his actions like everyother spineless coward who can't take responsibility for their own actions. He might even catch a break for it.

This man... I think he has psychological problems. My mother tells me that when somebody's playing video games he gets temporalily violent, but it never happened to me! I suppose it is real, though. Another reason for people to think that video games are responsible for deaths. Sad. And it's a shame, really.
