The Moon Hoax

Well, from various comments in various threads in here I've realised that at least a couple of people here at ZU think that the entire Apollo portion of the American space program was a hoax, perpetrated for various reasons. I also noticed that this topic hasn't had a thread devoted to it, so I decided to start one.

My position on this is probably known to a fair number here, I think that all claims of it being a hoax are utter nonsense. Not only is there literally hundreds of hours of recordings, both audio and video, but most of the claims for how the hoax could be pulled off defy the laws of physics.

So, here it is, to all of you hoax believers, why do you think that the lunar landings never occured?

I question many things but that Aint one of them... Why in the name of god would someone think that the moon landings never happened... Its like saying that the Habs never won the stanley cup... Too much documentation O_o

I personally don't believe it was a hoax myself, but just to play devil's advocate, one possible reason could be that America was desperate to beat the Russians for the sake of strengthening the nation's faith in their government, to reinforce the idea that America and Democracy is good, Russia and Communism is evil, and good always triumphs over evil. The moon landing becomes what was Plato called a noble lie, a lie told to the masses by the social elite in order to inspire them and give their lives meaning and hope in a time of war against a dark enemy. The people who perpetuated the moon landing weren't concerned with whether it was true or not, only in the effect it would have on people. And it did have a huge emotional impact on Americans.

I agree with Thorn. I believe that the moon landing happened.(Though I wasn't alive back then)

Yea, in 9th Grade we watched this film on it...I thought it was kinda convincing, but really, commen sense could disprove some of the things they had to say. Personally, I believe we went to the moon, thw whole thing about us not going was a scam some people thought up and investigated, just go get their 15 mins. of fame...and they got it, yet they did too good job doing it, now they've got people thinking, and thats never good

With any history-changing event there are the naysayers; Vietnam, the holocoust, the moon landing, anything. I personally believed it happened, and I think Thorn summed up the reasons for a hoax nicely.

There's tons of things that people say never happened. The Moon landing, 9/11, the holocaust.....They just want attention, I suppose.

well, i know some people who beleive the apollo landing to be a hoax, and the two main reasons why they beleive this is

-the flag doesn't move

-no stars

Well, there's no atmosphere on the moon, no strong lunar winds, so I wouldn't expect the flag to move, and regarding the lack of stars; the moon acts as a mirror, i'm sure all the light reflected on the moon upped the contrast so the camcorder used wasn't able to pick all those tiny bits of light, and even then, it was a crappy camera anyways.

But it is quit possible for the whole lunar landing to be faked, USA needed the upper hand, and Russia just had beat us to space, so it would seem perfectly logical to stage a whole lunar landing, saving billions of dollars.

^You're right, there's no atmosphere on the moon, and so there's no wind or other meteorological conditions. The reason that the flag does wave while its being placed down is due to the astronaut swivelling the flag as he's placing it.

Also, the stars didn't show up in any photographs because of the light being reflected of the moon like you said, so the cameras being used needed to have a tiny aperture or else the photos would be way too bright to see anything, and so the light from the stars was not bright enough to show up.

During the moon landing, astronauts placed mirrors on the surface of the moon so that scientists could conduct experiments from Earth (taking measurements), and these have been used many times. It wouldn't be possible to conduct these experiments without any mirrors, we know that they are there.

Another reason its not faked is the enourmous ongoing cost it would take to keep participants queit. Also the fact that the first Pictures where recieved by a forgein country (Australia) also kind of make it hard for it to be a hoax.

Lol how can you believe that the moon landing was a hoax? I dont get peoples reasoning...You have to be very disturbed to think that? So i'm calling to all conspiritors! What are your reasons???

There is no proof of the moon landing being fake. But there is evidence of the moon landing being real. So what canm you say now...against the VIDEO of footage!

The larger a cover up is, the harder it is to keep covered up. The Apollo missions involved hundreds of people. If it were fake, at least a dozen people who were involved would have blown the whistle by now.

My question is quite simple. Why would the government or whoever fake the moon landing?

Well i'd guess because the U.S. wanted to be more popular or something but if people did make it up like someone said they would've let it slip about now. And I beleive there were people who actually saw the rocket head up to space but after all that why come back and just film it and waste all the rocket gas?

The Space Race. After World War II, there were two "super-powers" in the world, The United States, and Russia. Russia had a communist government under Stalin, and Stalin's communists wanted to see the end of capiatalism in the world, and likewise the American capitalists wanted to see the end of communism. So a period known as The Cold War begins, named so because it was a war fought with treaties, agreements, and arguments, as opposed to bullets and bombs.
The two parts of The Cold War people hear about most where MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction, a neuclear war deterrent) and The Arms Race, the gradual building of the US and Soviet armies by inventing new guns, bombs, tanks, planes, and so on.
The Space Race was similar to the Arms Race, except it was for space exploration. There were also militrary reasons for it, as both America and Russia were eager to build long range missiles. But, back to the point, Russia won the space race by sending the first satillite and the first human into space. It appeard as though America was falling behind.
The one big argument that supports a "fake" moon landing was that Russian rocket technology was simply better, and at the time, the US wasn't capable of getting to the moon. It would have been faked because we needed to appear as though we were ahead of the Russians in the Space Race, disregarding weather we actually were or not.

Definitely a hoax. Naïve lot.

Mad Hatter already stated that above. We were having a monumentous contest with Russia on who could get to the moon first. The USA could very well make a fake moon landing just so they could get the upperhand. Really, it's all in the reputation.

I personally think the people that say the moon landing was faked are stupid but they can have their opinion no matter how... weird it is.
