Our Reason.

What is the reason we exist on this Earth? What is the purpose of our life? Why must we live and suffer and go through pain and sorrow? What do you think God's purpose for us was?

Please post your opinions and thoughts.

My hypothesis. I believe we exist in the state that we do (as mortals, temporary beings, with a cripplingly limited sense of ourselves our fellows and the universe) is because to exist otherwise (as permenant, eternal beings with a complete sense of ourselves, our fellows and the universe) would be intolerably boring.

Be careful where you take that line of thinking...

That's what I call sucidal talk...believe me I have goth/emo friends that's all they basically talk about and attempt it so don't think about that stuff because God loves all of us and he loves us all so much he put us on this earth to live and breathe each day.

I think we're all here to follow our own curiosities and motivations until they eventually lead us to our demise. Sure, some of us may have been 'destined' to become doctors and teachers and the like, but I tend to believe (mostly for the wellbeing of my state of mind) that we're all here to make the most of life as we see fit. Too bad not everyone can do that...

And we all go through pain and sorrow, as well as happiness, because they are experiences that will aid us in the future. You learn from your mistakes. Besides, if you were happy all the time, happiness would...suck.

In Lunchbox's case, I don't think it's suicidal; more like inquisitiveness. But after a while, contemplating the meaning of life does get you kind of down...

Maybe we'll find out after it's over...maybe not.....but enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm not depressed or anything, like I said, I think you just have to be careful where you take that line of thinking. Your friend Anora is probably just be taking it to a dark place. It can happen with any set of ideas, even with religion. Look at Reverend Fred Phelps, there's an example of someone who takes Christianity and twists it into something hateful and dangerous.

Lifes purpose is to spread life to where their is none. Make of that what you will.

I think there is no purpose.
We just live because we are living creatures.
Or there is a chance that we were created to protect Earth.
Seriously, how do you know that we aren't Earth's protectors?

The better question would be: "What would be the point of not living?"

I kinda dislike that you state that God exists like a fact. Not all believes what you believe so please dont give god up in the same way you did there. Sure he truly fits into the topic but not in that way. (got a bit confusing, hope ya understand my point"

How do you know that the earth wants trees and animals? Maybe they are killing the earth! Maybe earth wants to come back into the state of eternal chaos. I actually think that earth might be a beeing, its not impossible. Even though its very far-fetched, it is possible.

So what your saying is that because one does not have a point the other one has? I don't think that it works that way, seeing as how many people have come and gone without finding that which made their lives meaningfull.

Very true, there is no point in questioning that which may not have an answer, but it's pure and simple human nature to question the reason for our existence, maybe it's just a way feeling that your life is worth something.

I've been thinking about this every morning I wake up. And I really don't know. There are like 1001 answers for this. Maybe the purpose of life is to live. Maybe we all will know these things when we die. Maybe it has something to do with the afterlife. Maybe God send us to earth to show how we are and to proof that we have survived in this world. Maybe this has something to do after we died. Maybe there is a good world and a bad world after we die. and the ones that did good things on earth will go to the good world(heaven) and the ones that did bad things go to the bad world(hell). And maybe there happens something, that has do with our existence.

It's not like we came to earth for such things. Some people are stupid and do those kinds of things.

Why does there have to be a point? Why can't we just be?
