Wet Foot/Dry Foot Policy in US

(Sorry if this is already posted... looked and couldn't find anything...)

What do y'all think about the wet foot/dry foot policy? And about the protesting?

I think the policy is dumb, and okay. Dumb, because they'll be having fights over wether your feet got wet or not. That's something ancient civilizations used to squabble about. It's good because of this: Why should we just let the people walk into our country? No other country just lets you do that, even if your feet are "dry"... Were so freaked out about terrorists coming over, but yet we could just allow them to waltz in through the border if they don't look like terrorists and their feet are dry.

As for the protesting...some people actually have good reasons to protest... but others? I heard people at my school always saying how (NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE!!! NOT MY WORDS!!!) the Mexicans are taking over Texas and how they take our jobs, and they should all be marched back to Mexico, but there they are, protesting the policy that would keep the Mexicans out. (Again, I am not racist, and I don't mean to offend anyone. My friend is Mexican.) It's just dumb.

Little side note: A kid at my school got yelled at by an AP for "protesting" just because he was drinking at the water fountain during class time...(he had permission to be out)... Ha haha.....Yeah right....he and "all the people around him" in the empty hallway.....

Re: Wet Foot/Dry Foot Policy in US

Well... if the immigrant in question is a wet foot - someone on a boat trying to get to America - he would be turned back because he'd be violating U.S. waters as a foreign entity.

If he gets to the coast, or walks over the border, he's a dry foot, and thus gets a shot at working here and getting a green card. It seems a little harsh for those caught on boats in the ocean, but it's kind of logical.

The real issue here should be immigration policy in general, shouldn't it?

I am completely opposed to unrestricted immigration. Build a better f'ing wall, or ENFORCE EXISTING LAWS. If you enter this country illegally and then have the gall to complain about anything, then get your sorry good-for-nothing hide back on the other side of the border.

It's insanity.

By that logic, alot of cargo ships should be turned around as well. They are foreign. I see you point though.

Well you sound prety racist. "how they take 'our' jobs". Why should a mexican have any less right than a white person when it comes to getting jobs. They have a right to work too. If there are jobs, and there are people who what to hire them, then why not? Why send them out of the country just becuase they are mexican? Most of the jobs in America are taken by white people, should white people be sent back to Europe?

I think you missed the sentence in all caps, where he said those were someone else's words.

The problem is that Mexico is absolutely no help in all of this. The only country that's actually trying to stop illegal immigration is Cuba.

Thanks NightWing... Goodness, no, I would NEVER be racist. (By the way. I'm a girl. ^-^ Not a guy...)
I think everyone should do what they can to stop illegal immigration. Why don't they just get a greencard the legal way? Then they wouldn't have to worry about the government sending them back, or whatever it is they do...
As for the rights about jobs, ChrisHoulihan, everyone has the same rights to get a job, but some people feel that the illegal immigrants, in Texas it's usually Mexicans who are targeted by this, (not always) are taking the citizen's jobs that the citizens could have in their own country to support their country and families. And this isn't just an issue in the US though. This is happening in Africa too with Europeans moving in and taking jobs, but that's only an example to show you that this is a problem for the world and not just for the US and Mexico, or Cuba.
Speaking of Cuba, I hope that that Castro guy isn't going to stick around for any longer, 'cuz even if the Cubans wanted and applied for greencards, they couldn't leave the country. I understand their reason for illegal immigration, but that is probably the only case where I would show sympathy. They basically have no choice.

(Just a note: I'm an immigrant too, y'all...been for 10 years, so don't get ideas that I have things against immigrants.)
