Against the Mainstream

Salutations to all,
This thread is designed for discussion of any ideas you have that are not accepted by most others. I do not mean religion. I refer more to "Aliens are real" or "We never went to the moon" or "Psychics are real". Before this gets underway I'll lay down some ground rules, if you are unwilling to follow these then do not post in this thread. Although I cannot personally enforce these I will more then likely report posts that go against them (Apologies in advance to the mod team, if this proves to be too many posts reported feel free the lock the thread.)

1. Back up your ideas with facts. This is mandatory, you must have some form of reaserch to back up your claims.

2. No ad hominem attacks, this means that you may not use name calling, or refer to anyone else in any derogatory fashion, what-so-ever.

3. Be prepared to defend your ideas, no "Post-n-runs". If you post an idea you must be prepared to back it up when things are questioned. If you can't answer the questions then say so.

4. Naturally all other forum rules apply.

5. This topic is for discussion of ideas that are not scientifically accepted, not for personal opinions on ideas that cannot be proven one way or another. This thread is not for discussion of anything political or opinionated. if another topic in SD covers it odds are this is not the thread for it. If you feel that welfare should be abolished then say so in another thread, if you feel that the voting age is too low then start a new topic, this is not the place for anything like that.

6. This list may be altered at any time, depending on behaviour, new rules will be marked as such and bolded.

Now, the above intro was rather thin, and you're still probably wondering what exactly this is about. Recently I've browsed around several scientific forums, I was amazed at the number of people who made outrageous claims, I then returned to ZU and saw an almost equal number of odd ideas floating about. I've decided to create this thread so that people can post why they think what they do about various things, and debate civilly about them. I hope to, by doing this, lessen the number of impossible ideas being believed, and also see if there are some subjects that more funding should be spent reaserching.

The format is simple enough, you post your idea(s) and your reason for believing it/them. If you are going to quote another site provide a link to the site and a summary of what it says. If you are answering someone else's post please, please, please quote them. This will greatly reduce confusion and will allow people to keep track of a 'chain' of debate without scrolling around too much. Finally, please read an entire debate 'chain' before posting a reply to it, no one likes one person repeating something that someone else said. If you don't have time to read through the whole thread then you don't have time to post in it, it's as simple as that.

With that I leave you to it, no, I'm not going to start, I don't really have any (non-religious) beliefs that could be considered non-mainstream.
