attack: Agreed but it would still be the mature thing to do and if a man doesn't do that then I don't think he's mature enough to father a child.

snow: God I hope not. I'm against abortion especially if it's the woman's fault. Anyway if the girls are mature then they'll accept their mistake and try to raise the child(hopefully with a "mature" boyfriend) and make the best of it. This to me is better than simply taking the easy way out.

Re: 115 Girls Pregnant in Chicago High School

The prevalence of teen pregnancy in the United States is abysmally high in general, so this isn't the most surprising thing.

I figure the poor and inconsistent sex education programs might have something to do with it.

For my "sex ed" we only learned about the reproductive system. How it scientifically works. Nothing about STDs, or proper condom use, or anything like that.

shadow: Really? I thought it was mandatory to teach that stuff. Anyway If we didn't have abortions I wonder if they number of pregnancies would decrease. Although then the infanticide or child abandonment rate could go up so I'm stuck on what we should do.

It might be mandatory in some states. education policy is largely handled at the state level.

Margar: Well I don't see why it shouldn't be mandatory unless they want more unborn children killed/ending up in foster care.

well, duh, but teaching kids about birth control will just make them think it's ok to go out and have sex with anyone and everyone!

(yeah I see the retarded logic here. it was a joke)

Kids are curious and rebellious and think they're mature. They're GOING to ♥♥♥♥ before marriage. All these hypocritical adults thinking they can somehow find some magical method to make kids abstain, it's as if they forgot what it was like to be a high-schooler themselves. Kids are gonna try it anyway, so at least teach them how not to get knocked up or get an STD. Stupid religion.

And to Margar.

I bet as generation appears more kids are going to have sex than their previous generation, like the previous generation now (our parents) probably didn't do that as much or at all.
Stupid religion?

margar: I'm going to remain a virgin till I'm married so that's a pretty big generalization. Also that is why I dislike birth control because it's essentially a failsafe that says to teenage girls "Who gives a damn if I get pregnant I can just end the baby's life before it starts and everything will be fine." Also please don't bring religion into this it's more suited to the serious discussion forum.

You're completely wrong to think that our parent's generation didn't do it at all. they totally did it. and so did the generation before that. The 60's-70's OMG You may be right that fewer teens had sex the further you go back in time, in fact you probably ARE right, but still, PLENTY of people were still doin' it at an early age. my mom and her bro and sis have all admitted that they lost their virginity young. my mom was 13. (that's just freaking' wrong, though!). And you should think twice before asserting that "morals" are tied to religion. You can have morals and even be an atheist. Morals are not tied to religion, they are tied to our personal sense of right and wrong, which for some people, are tired to religion.
You believe that sexual morality means abstaining until marriage. but guess what? I believe that sexual morality means respecting yourself and never letting anyone make you do something you don't feel ready for, and when you are ready, respect yourself and your potential offspring by using protection so you don't bring a child into the world unprepared. That's MY moral code. Morals are NOT universal. they are subjective.

I wasn't trying to say that ALL HUMANS will have sex before they're married, I'm not freaking retarded!
I know that birth control is NOT a failsafe. And if our education system would teach properly, they'd teach that they are not a failsafe (my school taught us pretty well in that regard). And WAIT A MINUTE!!
Birth control =/= ending a baby's life before it starts!

Reproduction 101: Sperm+egg=pregnancy. If the sperm adn the egg never meet, no pregnancy. If you do not allow the sperm to fertilize the egg, then you have not ended a life. you can't end something that hasn't begun, so you're argument is false.

If it's wrong to end a life before it's begun, then by your logic, the second a girl gets her period she should go get pregnant because by not having sex (and not allowing sperm to meet egg) the, she's ending her baby's life before it's begun OH NOES!!!

Sorry, I guess this would get too serious if I brought religion in, but it's too late. if the mods think this should be in SD, then they;ll move it. I think it should have been there to begin with because it was BOUND to go down this path, if I didn't bring it up someone would have.

Anyways, while the best way to avoid pregnancy is obviously not having sex, a lot of teenagers are impulsive and don't think carefully about these kind of things. These girls probably aren't ready for children yet, whether I intended on getting pregnant or not, and now they'll have to deal with the consequences, meaning getting abortions or going through the pain of raising a child at a young age.

Yeah, it was kind of out of nowhere.

I should have explained why I said that.
What I should have said was
"stupid religion making its way into public curriculum!"
There are very few non-religious people who are super adamant about abstinence. The people that are all big into abstinence are religious groups. School is a state-run institution (unless you're in a private school), so teaching abstinence only is like promoting religion over science.

There will ALWAYS be people who will choose to have sex. There's no way to MAKE everyone abstain, so you might as well at least make sure they know how to properly use birth control.there.

Re: 115 Girls Pregnant in Chicago High School

margar: Wait a minute my definition of "before it has begun" is that the baby has been conceived but is not yet born. And while you may not have actually said that something about your post seemed to imply that. Alright nwo that I think about it this probably is more suited to SD
