Why is it that...

I want to know: Why do people cling to life so happily? We're not going to live forever. We all have expiration dates, so why make things good if we're all going to die, and all we do will mean NOTHING! Why rebuild our lives? If something bad happens, why bull**** everything to make it SEEM better when it isn't??

Re: Why is it that...

Because sometimes, there are some things worth living for.

This I finally learned after several years of depression and, sometimes, not wanting to go on anymore. Now I have met the partner of my dreams, and gained a desire to spend the rest of my life with him.

Re: Why is it that...

Just because we will all be dead one day, it doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy the time we have, and make the most of it.

Also, we'll all leave some legacy of ourselves behind, since our actions affect our environment and the people around us.

Yeah, we're going to die eventually. In like.....over 50 years. Way to soon. Not enough time to enjoy life that's for sure.

Mine as well end my life now.

Peace ZU.

Re: Why is it that...

God, you're right; I'm emo and gonna kill myself now.

Seriously, though, this is silly. I mean, why care if our lives are short? The "meaning" of our lives and what lasting effects our actions have doesn't quite matter, as it does not change the fact that there is plenty of fun to have in life. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts, right? Right.

You must either be a young teenager or in a very dangerous state right now.

People need to enjoy their lives while they have them. Your life is the only one you've got, and to make it miserable is absolutely stupid. This is always why I dislike the notion of an afterlife, too, because it makes too many people trivialize their current lives and think that the "afterlife" is "really" where it's at.

Going on about how "pointless" your existence is is just stupid.

Re: Why is it that...

I'm sure that millions of years of evolution brought us to the point where we should contradict our will to survive.

Seriously though, go eat your favorite ice cream, go play your favorite video game, and go hang out with your friends. That's really why we live. We're supposed to enjoy this life. And if you're not stupid, you'll allow others to enjoy their lives, whether it's by opening a door for them on their way out of the bus to building a water supply in a derelict village. And I'm not even saying it for the sake of altruism; people won't be good to you unless you're good to them, so if the point of living life is to enjoy yourself, then teach other people to enjoy themselves for the sake of letting you do the same.

I mean, we're here on Earth. You can't change that now, and why throw it away when you can make something good of it all?

I loathe this mentality. Just go out and do something. Write a short story, take lessons on auto repair, just do what you think you'll enjoy. If what you do means something to you, then who cares if it means nothing to everyone else?

Because the only reason your life is so crap is because of other people being as selfish as you are being right now. If you have resigned yourself to die, can you not at least give all your stuff to charity and do volunteer work for a hospital 24 hours a day? The reason most people don't do that is because they'd die of starvation and exhaustion, but since you don't seem to mind the idea of dying, why not at least have someone else benefit?

Consider Batman: his parents die when he's very young, and when he grows up he realises that he's never going to get over it; he'll always be miserable. His fortune does not console him. But he DOES have the courage to realise that he has the gift of life, the gift of ability, and the gift of money. He sees an opportunity - perhaps he'll never get his parents back, but he'll make sure no-one else in Gotham loses their parents to murder. To simply kill himself without helping others would be a waste of a life. Don't you wish someone had been selfless enough to be able to prevent whatever event has made you so unhappy? You can be that person for someone else.

Be Batman. And as Alfred says: "If you pretend to have fun, who knows? You might even have a little by accident".

Re: Why is it that...

To inform you all: I am not suicidal. Now then....

I am "book smart" I got valedictorian in my senior class. I write a small story, I am creative in RPs. What is that going to amount to when I die? Not a single thing! "Having Fun" in this life means nothing when you die, as you awards, and everything else cannot follow.

So what? Why does it matter what happens when you die? You're alive now, aren't you?
