[Power Shot] Merrick's Training
Ooc:this pretty much picks up right were the bio leaves off. I also wanted to say that I had like a thousand ideas of how to start off and i went with the most basic one so it might be a little lacking in the creativity department.
word count 1,516 Bic: How long, Merrick wondered, has it been? All around white light enveloped everything effectively blinding him just like the darkness had, only now Merrick wasn’t falling or flying. It seemed like hours or days had passed since the sensation of falling left Merrick and now the white world that took the child in its overwhelming embrace seemed to finally shudder into full reality as Merrick realized he wasn’t blinded just everywhere around him was white. Picking himself up from the ground Merrick studied his surroundings or at least tried to, as far as he could see in any direction white engulfed everything there wasn’t any sound or depth to this place at all. Hmm Merrick thought, Am I floating or standing? The little one tapped the unseen surface of whatever he was standing on, “seems solid enough to me”, Merrick thought out loud to himself as he began to walk North of where he had been lying on the floor. As he was walking to apparently nowhere the scenery around was still the same after walking what had to have been at least half day in one direction all white and all the while Merrick found himself thinking on the phantom’s words “The gift that you have many want it”. just what the hell does that mean anyway? Merrick found he couldn’t put himself past the question due to the fact that it posed in bold vibrant letters: Merrick DawnFell your life is in danger. The dull throbbing that had plagued him earlier as a light headache now came with full force as Merrick put a hand to his forehead and reeled in pain as each slow throb caused him to wince in discomfort. Maybe if I eat something that’ll help, Merrick thought as he sat down grabbing one of the packs he brought with him and fished around inside until he withdrew what he was looking for. Gradually the dull throbs of pain subsided to a more tolerable level as the young child slurped the last of his HI-C orange drink and discarded it next to the empty Lunchables container. Well now that I’m feeling better maybe I should finally try to figure out just what the heck this place is. Lets see, Merrick thought, I know that this place has conditions similar to my world like the oxygen and force of gravity I also know that time is still relevant here as well, but the dimension of space here seems to be somehow distorted and I still can’t figure out where the light is coming from. “Maybe this place simply just is”, came the melodic and resilient voice of a man. Merrick stood frozen to his little spot on the ground upon hearing these words, before his instincts finally took over forcing him to turn his body in a violent twist in order to face the person behind him. Merrick gave a confused stare as he looked behind himself only to reveal nothing but the same white expanse that he was trapped in. “I know you’re here whoever you are so why don’t you just show yourself”, Merrick called out in a voice that didn’t betray his fear or the knot that had suddenly formed in his stomach. The kid waited nervously as he scanned the area with his eyes all of his body tense with anticipation. “Such conviction for one so young, very well you’ve impressed Me.”, the voice was amplified yet still somehow pleasing to the ears of the little one. Just then there was a loud popping sound and the air around Merrick began to erupt in swift, harsh gust as his favorite scarf followed suite with his hair flapping wildly in the wind. The sudden roar caused by the wind seemed to be deafening, yet he still heard the crisp crinkle of his clothes as they swayed franticly to and fro on his body. Merrick shielded his face from the stinging nettles his hair had become, silently waiting for the torrential winds to calm their rage. Just as quickly as they had come the winds dissipated the only evidence that anything happened was Merrick’s disheveled hair now in his face giving him the very distinct appearance that he had just rolled out of bed. Merrick blew his bangs out his face with a look of annoyance and then looked in awe at what lay before him. The core of the structure was massive by it’s self without taking in the glorious detail that he beheld with yellow eyes. At first look it reminded him of one of England’s gothic cathedrals only this architecture was amplified tenfold in its greatness and splendor. The little one tiled his head slightly upward as he took in the arched buttresses and the sharp spires the seemed to stab at the white sky in protest their pointed tips vanishing into thin air, Merrick again simply gawked at the entrance rising above into his view from the steps that suddenly sprang up from the ground to manifest a huge grand oak door with carvings of cherubs flocking in laughter around a solemn skeleton that towered over them all, his hands holding two golden handles. The sight of the door that held him transfixed was encased by four grand columns which in turn upheld a another stone structure that acted like a faux roof while still sitting under a great color glass window that depicted a small hand letting a rose drop into empty space a single drop of blood on its blue pedals. “Well here I am”, the voice clearly came from the building itself. Merrick again tried to retreat to his reason knowing that there wasn’t any possible way that a building was emanating the voice he heard. “What is this place?”, the kid called out not sure which direction to face or how one properly addressed whatever he was taking to. “This place in particular is where very few find me,” the voice continued,” in order to try and ease your confusion I am the formulation of countless histories, magics and energies that have meshed together over an immeasurable amount of time.” A thousand questions were racing through the little one’s head but the man’s voice carried on.” I am a nexus of all… connected to all places and all times, many beings have come before you and many will come after you although they all reach what I am in their own way.” Merrick began walking toward the steps that led toward the great door. All beings of all times have been to whatever this place is, Merrick thought, amazing. “Have you spoken with all of them, the beings”, Merrick stammered, unable to hide his sense of awe as he began to walk up the steps. “No only a very select few have ever reached this place and that’s why its so peculiar in you reaching this place.” “Me, in me reaching you, isn’t that what you mean, you said in me reaching this place.” Merrick couldn’t help but correct the semantics of the conversation. “This place is correct because I am not…I am not a living or non-living entity, nor am I a conscientiousness the word “I” is used simply for your purposes at best think of the what is happening between you and this place as a program that was left by the original programmers.” Merrick thought about what he just heard,” I guess that makes sense sort of, but if everyone that comes to this place comes in their own way what determines if they reach this exact place where they can talk with “you”,” Merrick wondered if what he said was correct. The voice of the man began to soothe the young ones ears once again. “For your sake we will continue this conversation as if I were a living entity, this white void… It is only in this place that words are actually spoken everywhere else I am simply a building with a common name.” Merrick now standing at the entrance was admiring the exquisite craftsmanship of the oak door, “once I step inside things will change again and I probably won’t here your voice again will I?” Merrick asked in a regretful voice, as he began walking inside the halls of the magnificent building and the great oak doors began to close slowly behind him.” Many things will change now that you are here and in time we may speak again.” The sound of the man’s voice was fading as the door was closing, “Hey one last question,” Merrick said before the doors came to a full close,” what was you common name?” The great oak door shut with a soft echo sounding gently in the stone halls that would lead Merrick in some unknown direction. As Merrick turned and began walking down the rather spartan halls a faint whisper tickled his ear,” My common name is The Dome.” Hmm the Dome, Merrick thought as he continued walking towards the center of the great stone structure wondering what else was in store for him, how interesting. |

Re: [Power Shot] Merrick's Training
Very nice indeed. I really enjoyed reading that. It had some nice suspense, description, dialogue, thought, everything I could have asked for really. It also had a very nice flow to it, though it was a little bit confusing in places. I don't think there's any point in me wasting my time going through this with a toothpick, its really very good, there isn't really anything that I feel the need to pick apart.
Assignment Time! Have Merrick enter the Dome. He can explore a while if you like but the main objective of this piece is for him to find his private room in the Dome, everyone has one. Once he finds it, have him enter. From there, I want you to describe the room - What's it like? Is it small, large? Modest, majestic? etc... Merrick should really feel connected to the room, he'll be spending a lot of time there while he's in the Dome, so make it interesting. It can be whatever you want. End the post with a knock at the door. |
