Re: [Power Shot] Dybia's training
Dybia was hunched over squatting down holding the envelope he’d just found. ”What is it Dybia?” The orb said hovering in closer to get a look at the envelope.
“It’s…a letter, addressed to me.” Dybia said a little puzzled, “Ok, I wasn’t expecting this day to be quite so...interesting. Huge building that doesn‘t fit the outside dimensions, strange glowing female orbs, paper ninjas and random letters addressed to me, the best question I can come up with is ‘What next?‘ ” He took a finger at one end of he sealed envelope and slit it open. He shook it towards his hand and two pieces of parchment fell into his hand. He unfolded one of the pieces and it was a letter.
“Dybia,
You’ve been recognized by the dome. If you wish to grow stronger and train, come to the dungeons. I’ve give you a map to follow. Do not Dawdle.
The Dark Eye” And that was all the letter said.
“Hm, not a very chatty guy. Well,” Dybia said getting up with a sigh, “I guess me and you are going to the dungeon, wherever that is.” He unfolded the second piece of paper, and it was a small map. It looked hand-drawn but it was very neatly done. It wasn’t a full map of the building though.
“What? you’re just going to accept a random offer of training from some stranger who apparently sent some weird ass paper ninjas after you?” Said the floating orb with a bit of apprehension to what was going to happen.
“Looks that way, unless you have some other suggestion? Because according to this we don’t really have options on exits. Dybia held up the small map showing there was no way out marked on the map besides the huge pit he fell down to get this far. “Besides, this guy seems to have a lock on everything going on here, so he’ll probably be able to remedy your little problem.”
“Little pro-? Oh yeah.” She said almost forgetting about her body with the more recent problems distracting her. “With those weird paper guys, I had actually almost forgotten about that.”
“Wow, you’re pretty short sighted about things, huh?” Dybia said trying to sound funny.
“Well, while we’re going who knows where to meet with who knows who, care to tell me a little about yourself?” The orb said flying beside Dybia as he eyed the map and walked along according to it.
“No, I’d rather not.” Dybia said trying not to sound interested in the subject.
“Come on don’t want to share a bit about your self? Where you’re from? What you did before coming here? Got any family?” The orb asked obviously bored of just floating silently.
“I’d really appreciate you dropping the subject of all of that.” He said without even looking at her.
”Well……” ,She started sounding like a kid that just got scolded, “What do you do now? You know, what‘s your work?”
“Fine I suppose I can at least talk about that.” Dybia said rounding a corner to start down a long flight of stairs that seemed to go down forever, “I fight, I get things people need, or I do things people need done.”
”Kind of general, don’t you think?” She said back to him.
“What do you want? I don’t do anything specific.” Dybia snapped.
”So, what? You’re basically a bum? Nowhere to go? Do anything for money?” She said seeming a little more annoyed with his lack of interesting topics to share.
“No, a bum has nowhere to go and does anything for money, I do it for something to occupy my time. Can’t make serving a god a full time job.” Dybia felt a twinge of pain from something unseen reminding him not to slip about that. What? You think she’s gonna do something? Who’s gonna listen to her? He was echoing back in his head.
”A god? What’s that about? You a priest or something?” She asked as the two of them took a turn down the stairs.
“More like a zealot” Dybia said to her, “I actually go out and do something in the world for this god instead of telling others to do it.” The pain came to him again
”And what exactly is it he asks you do?” She asked now getting curious about this so called god.
“Now that, even I’m not stupid enough to talk about.” Dybia said still staring straight down the stairs he was descending, “Let’s talk about something else.”
”Well, what do you call this god?” She asked, still curious.
“Well….a name spoken to someone in your condition won’t hurt anything. Who would listen to you anyway?” Dybia said to her jokingly, “To any mortal that knows of him he is called Zaros, Don’t spread it around.” The pain came again, stronger than before. Will you shut up?! Dybia shouted in his head.
Dybia looked around the ever still descending stairs. He noticed the style seemed to change as he descended. Every now and then symbols would show up on the walls. He didn’t recognize any of them.
“Zaros, weird name,” She said, now playfully flying above Dybia’s head.
“Well it’s the only name he has. You’re lucky I’m feeling chatty too because I usually have to be pretty tight lipped about him.” Dybia said still staring down the stairs watching the walls slowly changing.
“So why believe in this god? And do anything for him? What makes his existence more credible than any other to you?” She asked still curious.
“Because unlike people with blind faith in most other gods, I’ve talked to Zaros, and he’s done me a favor, and continues to,” Dybia said finally looking up at her while he was walking, wondering if she was looking at him or if she was noticing the décor change as well. He couldn’t tell because of her lack of eyes, or a face.
“So, what did he do for you?” She asked.
“Ah, well, as I said I don’t like to talk about my past in detail. Maybe another time.” Dybia said returning his gaze to the stairs in front of him.
The two finally reached the last o the stairs to find a new setting. It was a long hallway, walls covered with doors. Dybia walked over to the closest one and tried turning the knob, but found that it and all of the others were locked. Each one seemed strange and different from every other.
“Hm, guess it’s not one of these. Why invite me then lock me out?” He said as he began to walk past them all deeper through the hallway.
”Who? That Dark Eye guy? You sure you’ve never heard of him?” She said flying to each of the doors looking at the uniqueness of each, “To have such a place and not be well known.”
“Gotta admit, the size of this place is pretty impressive.” Dybia said thinking how long he’d been going down the stairs, and how deep underground he must have come. He couldn’t think of why this ‘Dark Eye’ would need a complex this large. Why were there so many rooms for a place that seemed to have no people in it. As far as he could tell the only trace of a person here was this Dark Eye. Who couldn’t come straight to Dybia, but ask him to come down to this deep dark dungeon. ‘Not like I have anything better to do’ Dybia thought to himself.
He still wondered where all the people were. He looked up to see he hanging torches that lit the hallway ever twenty five feet or so. Someone had to keep them ablaze. He kept asking him self if there would be someone waiting to jump him around the corner or something.
Dybia soon found himself in front of a gate of anything but modest size compared to the other doors. It seemed to be made of wrought iron and covered in a slew of intricate symbols. The biggest of which was a large green eye at the center of it.
“Damn.” said the orb floating around the door looking at each of the symbols.
“Well, think this is him?” ,Dybia said jokingly, recognizing the symbol from the stamp on the letter. He walked over to it and began checking for locks by sending a bit of electricity through it. He couldn’t find anything holding it shut, but there was no visible way to open it.
“No locks, no handles, no switches,” Dybia said before he knocked his gauntleted fist into the gate. It had to be more than a foot thick. No way to lift it or pull it open.
“How does this thing open? Does it go up or open up?” Dybia asked aloud.
”How should I know?” the orb said still checking out the symbols on the door.
Dybia let out a sigh and said, “Guess we have to be let in. Damn it.”
OoC: You know what? I can't promise any kind of schedule on this.
