Jehanne's Drawing Thread

◊ Jehanne's Drawings ◊

I've been drawing the characters from Skyward Sword; the game is a lot of fun, and I can tell that the team must have put a lot of love into their work, because even the side characters have depth, are interesting, and make the play more enjoyable. Here's a set of finished sketches.

See you later!

These are very pretty! I especially love the Giriham (?Ghiriham?) one, it looks so nice and neat!

:D

Some of these may be bad enough that the characters are unidentifiable, but I thought I'd share them anyway. These are some of the sketches that I've made while playing Skyward Sword. Hopefully you can figure out most of them. I don't think any of these are spoilers.

Very nice, I love the clean lines.

Aww yer back! GHIRAHIM! <333 I love him so much.
Great drawings! I could tell all of the characters in the last one!

Drawings look fantastic very clean and simple.

Loki Laufeyson 12-29-2011 08:04 AM

Really good illustrations, have you drawn adult Link and Ganondorf?

Thanks! I read a lot of comics, so I tend to go heavy on lines when I'm drawing. And I use an eraser a lot to clean them up. (Everything starts out like those rough sketches I posted a little earlier.)

\(^o^)/

I really like Ghirahim; I also like one of the scenes with him that's near the beginning-middle of the game, but I'll wait until I'm done playing before having any SS-talk.

^_^

I've made some Link drawings a while back, but nothing recent (that's been cleaned-up). I would like to. As for Ganondorf, I don't think I've ever tried to draw him? I'm going to do more fanart, and I'll definitely post them here.

Thanks!

I haven't been able to draw much during this holiday; but here's something from a week or so ago (it's a sketchbook copy from a Studio Ghibli book of My Neighbor Totoro).

You're welcome, Jehanne! :-)

So you drew these with pencil, did you ink them as well?

These Skyward Sword sketches are all pencil; I increased the contrast after I scanned them so that the darkest lines were black. I do inking sometimes when I think I'm going to color the drawing. Using a nib pen and ink is more rewarding, but inking pens are less messy.

XD

Here's an example of where I combined an inked drawing with other media (like graphite pencils) instead of coloring:

I see. Anyway are the ones in http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...ml#post4468771 drawn by pencil or were those drawn using a tablet?

Those rough sketches are 2H, HB, or 2B pencil on a Strathmore sketchpad (each character gets a page, so most of the sketches are about half the size of sheet of paper).

I can sort of ink and color digitally, but I don't like the way that sketching on a tablet feels. Real paper gives a particular resistance to the pencil tip that I'm used to, so the smooth feeling of the tablet surface bugs me.

Loki Laufeyson 12-29-2011 10:40 AM

What size is your sketchpad, Jehanne?

I draw mine on A3 artblock, but when I scan them -- the paper becomes damaged from the scanner (which is A4-sized).

Pretty much affected the drawings.

This sketchpad is the 9 x 12 inch, spiral-bound pad that has perforated pages. I usually trim the paper with a papercutter for scanning if it's too big; I rarely draw all the way to the edges of a sheet. For large drawings or pages that wrinkle from wet media, I just take a photo instead.

I tend to work small.

Loki Laufeyson 12-29-2011 10:52 AM

I see! Thank you for the tips (draw small, etc.) which also can have the drawings get accomplished faster than a full-paged A3 drawing that I usually do.

Sophie 12-31-2011 04:23 PM

OMG, it's like a terrible, terrible itch. Basically, if I don't draw everyday (at least a little), start to get feelings of anxiety. Holiday breaks are really hard on me because it means that there's actually less opportunity for me to sit alone and draw.

:jinny:

So yesterday I did get to sketch some Zelda characters while playing SS (still can't get Groose to look right). And a little while earlier today, I looked at a photo of Zarah (Bewbs-chan) and sketched this:

Sweet SS Zelda 12-31-2011 10:24 PM

Do you have any clear sketches of SS Link and/or SS Zelda?

zay 01-01-2012 03:44 AM

WOW!

You are gooooooood!

Well, I tried.
I decided to draw this mofo instead because at the moment, I hate him more. I'll draw Koloktos later.

EDIT: and by the way, I used official artwork as a reference, rather than a screenshot from the game; and there's no way I would have been able to draw him during the actual battle :XD:

It looks good. I want to see how you would sketch SS Link.
