Skullie's a Poet!
Indeed, I am, and I decided to stop keeping my stuff hermetically sealed for fear of ridicule and other such abominations. It's a bad habit of mine. So, here you will find poems that I've finally decided to share with you, ZU, place-that-I-rarely-visit. (=P) Commentary would be appreciated.
This first poem is one I submitted to a poetry contest (a legitimate one), and I'm actually one of the winners to be published, so that's pretty awesome. It's also one of the ten I included in my book of poems called The Endless Road, which was my final project for my Creative Writing class. I also performed this as well as other poems at various open mics at my high school this past year. See if you can guess what it's about - I wrote it in Pre-Calculus while I was sick some months ago. These passageways, dank and dark, welcome malicious intruders from the abyss of disease. They crawl up its walls and settle in its cavities; ever treacherous, ever silent. With force they raise their shields and resist the gusts of wind, a phalanx of Phlegmish soldiers. How persistent you are - bold men! - to trespass private property and infest these two narrow roads with your slimy bodies; To congest traffic and conjure your General Malaise to collapse your innocent enemy. You can cackle now, lowly ones, but here a wave comes: A jet of lethal solution to wipe out your defiant army. I'll post more later on. I don't want to bombard you all, now.

Re: Skullie's a Poet!
'Kay, here's some recent stuff.
For those who don't know, Earth (my boyfriend) and I have this inside joke that spawned from a picture we saw, advertising a film called Raptor Quest which we couldn't help but laugh at. Well, in my Creative Writing class one day, our assignment was to write something based on an inside joke, and this silly thing was born: Brave lizard, come to our aid! Our enemies advance every day nearer to our humble town. Come, we’ll grant you your crown! A mighty king you will be should you make our enemies flee. How cruel is the savage throng, beating and chanting their fight song. Their chilling battle cries of lore ignite the blazing fires of war. Of mercy and peace they don’t know - kindness and pity, they’ll never show! So Sir Raptor, pray demonstrate your valiance which is innate. Prove to them your skill, fight and watch their blood chill. Descend from your distant lair - prompt them to move, if they dare! Slash and stab, thrust and grab Show them where they stand! Grasp your shield, brandish your sword, and you are guaranteed a reward. So Sir Raptor, swear by your knightly crest - We beg you to commence your quest! Now, for a change of tone. I wrote this in a frenzy during free time in my journalism class near the end of my senior year - it was the last poem in the book I mentioned earlier. Unlike "Congestion," this one has a rhyme scheme, and it's somewhat more conventional. It's a bit personal, but here you go. Where is my place? To and fro, people quickly go. Where they’re headed, I think I’ll never know. A blur of colors, a rush of gusts, and in the wind, they are only dust. Trivial and petty are their woes. Uncaring, Life’s river still flows. Anger and revenge they eat, but it’s themselves they soon defeat. Hypocrisy and corruption - all powerful their consumption - paired with all other vices, Combine to form world crisis. Why am I here? Mother’s pain is all too great for her to life appreciate. Father’s madness does ripple and spread with every word he has said. Brother’s wayward addictions are the family’s afflictions. Sister’s complex essence struggles against eventual evanescence. Lover’s faraway hands much want of my touch. Too rare is his soul - this blessed love, I cannot control. Where shall I go? Home, my final place of rest. There I will lie, roses on my chest. Quietly they will surround me - Love and peace, that is all I will see. To and fro, people will go. Where they’re headed, still I’ll never know. But no longer does this disturb; Never will my core let it perturb. Someday this world will end, and we will all cease to pretend. Stars, planets, and people will die, but we will spread our wings - and away we will fly. Home is with you.
