challenge, request, whatever
(second try at finding the right forum for this)
ok... I'm a noob so this might be the wrong place for this but here it goes. (and if this is the wrong forum just redirect me if you could, that is if the thread holds anyone's interest. My name is J and I'm a lore smith. "what the heck is that?" well... a Lore Smith goes around collecting lore (stories, historical information, maps, ect.) to better construct a story from evidence. I see you have a few here without knowing they are. I did this for Lord of the rings and I learned a whole lot. It's set up like actual documentation of a story that really happend, such as dealing with a video game as if it came from ancient texts or handed down over the generations, cuz after all, isn't LoZ one of our modern epics? with that in mind. There are two types of Lore I collect... Authenticated and a secondary source which is Debatable. Authenticated being there is no doubt that it belongs, and secondary that it most likely (and in our case deffinately) did not come from the original manuscripts (games) and is someone's ellaboration... For example... secondary source claims... Manuscript (game): ALttP Subject: The Armos Knights Gaudian During a great war there were a brotherhood of knights, all decended from a legendary hero, One that some called Link. there were 12 in all. Through out the war they died, one after another until only six remained. Then, to protect the pendent of courage (Kokiri Stone) they brought it to the eastern palace and there they had their spirits taken from them and put into six Armos Knights, so that they may protect the pendent for hundreds of years without a body to die. It is said that only their decendent who is worthy of their prize and defeats them in battle, only then can their spirits be released to rest and the pendent claimed. This is the Tale of the Armos Knights. Okay, you read this and you'll see that there are errors, assumptions, and just plain old imagination. That's what you call a secondary source. From there a majority votes on how valid the source is (how much they liked, enjoyed, or agreed with) and where it should be put in the shaping of the Lore. (all entries are valid, just some might be found to be very important to the process while others are just nice ideas) Ofcoarse there is always authenticated sources which means they come from the game or something just as official, but the fun there lies in trying to piece together how the stuff we know fits together. Such as your time line thread. Man this was long and most readers probably stopped reading already, but for anyone who is intersted in helping me learn more about the actual structure of Zelda along with your own personal liberties then I'm here waiting. Here's how to start... Pick a Manuscript (Game) LoZ AoL LA ALttP OoT MM OoS OoA TWW FS FSA TMC TP PH Pick a subtopic 1Character 2Item 3Land 4Creature 5Story in general and Elaborations on known Tales Now you can write what you know about your choice, or create an anicdote such as, what's the story of the windmill man in OoT. Or if the games were manuscripts and ancient books and scrolls, which would be most reliable, which would be dated the oldest. just alot of fun things you can do with a thread like this... oh and it might help if anyone participating chose the same game and subtopic such as... OoT and character, then we spend a thread talking about the characters (what we know, like to know, made up) and I can open my mind to the world that is Zelda official and unofficial. Like I said this might be the wrong forum but I didn't want to be presumptious (sp?) and post it in every forum till I found the right one. Hoping I'll get some intrest in my attempts Lore Smith J |
